What's for tea tonight? (#8)

how did you do yr chicken fricasee? i did one from julia childs which was great but took ages.

Garlic and onions softened in olive oil with crushed peppercorns. Added chopped green peppers and mushrooms. Then chunks of chicken breast. Fry on high heat for 10 minutes. Add a couple of mugs full of water and leave to simmer for 10 minutes.

In the meantime make a paste of olive oil with a large spoonful of flour. Stir in a pint of milk whilst heating (not to the boil). Add a few lumps of blue cheese. When the cheese has melted pour into the main pan. Add peas (and whatever else). Heat until the sauce thickens.

About 30 minutes total.

thanks for that mate. its me bro's birthday dinner tomorrow and its either chicken fricasee, louisina chicken with biscuits (gorgeous!!!) or chicken chasseur. nice to have choices eh? if i do the fricasee i'll let you know how it goes!

Tried a new indian takeaway last friday and had Chicken Tikka Jalfrazi with a Keema nan bread, did me own rice though coz i dont like white so did me own brown instead. Funny thing was though when i got home an took out the nan an ripped it in half i discovered a long piece of donor meat straight down the middle of it. keema nan my arse Cheeky gits! Trouble is it were bloody lovely so am orderin the same tonite.

Chicken goujons, garlic and paprika new potato wedges and peas...relatively easy dinner (I cooked the potatoes the other day) cos I've just spent my arvo elbow deep in thick grease thanks to my bloody manager emptying the rank contents of the bottom of the steamer down the sink

Chinese tonight shared among a few of us so bits of king prawn in green pepper with black bean sauce, special ho fun, special fried rice, spring roll, sweet and sour chicken, chilli salt chips.

Chilly salt chips?

There is some prawns in the freezer and some ends of veg to be used up... so likely a stir fry... I would rather have khans/ take away

some tasteless extremely low cal shite, eaten as i sit on the sofa crying into my boyfriends chips :(

My wife does that. She'll be there trying to find some kind of edible morsel in her Weight Watchers meal and as I walk in with a big steaming plate of sausages and mash I'll clock her little eyes following my plate into the room, then she'll look down at her goop, then her little lip will go out, and a single tear will fall onto her plate, increasing the calorific content of her dinner by 200% and for a second, a tiny split second, I'll feel a bit bad. So what do I do? I do the right thing. I tell her how every delicious mouthful of my hot buttery mash tastes, how the peas pop in my mouth and how the sausage is just divine, so she can share the experience and enjoy it as much as I do.

Shit I'm a good husband. I deserve a beer

I am soooo fucking glad I don't bother with the dieting thing! I can't STAND feeling deprived over food - makes me want to kill

yeh it's fucking shit for sure. but i hate feeling fat and i've given up drugs, so what can i do? (please don't say exercise and adopt a healthy, long-term approach to your weight and food ;) )

I tell you what I DID used to LOVE, diet food-wise....LEAN CUISINE's  ...specifically the 'glazed chicken' and the 'chicken a l'orange' (iirc)....OH and the beef one (can't remember what it was called :hmm: )! OMG, I DO miss those...YUMMY!

My friend's mum used to have her freezer stacked full of them....I used to go round and eat a selection of them all in one go.

Tonight I will be making one of my recreations of a classic takeaway dish - Kung Pao prawns (Hong Kong style) with mushroom and egg fried rice. Looking forward to it.

We have mince that needs using so I'm gonna fashion some kind of bolognese pasta bake with a fuck tonne of cheese on top and garlic inside.

I found some ancient dried chickpeas in our cupboard we bought in Tuscany on our honeymoon back in 2008. So I soaked them overnight and put them with some diced pork shoulder, tomatoes, smoked paprika and harissa, put it in the oven on low for 4 hours and it's pretty nice now.
