What's for tea tonight? (#8)

hope it goes/went ok.

Consultant went on holiday and they didn't bother telling us so wasted a half day holiday as well as the hour and half we sat there until they bothered telling us :( Had to cheer my self up with a pickled egg to go with my battered sausage, chips and mushy peas.

Baked spud tonight.

Cod, chorizo and chickpeas stew. Mr.QofG's is cooking.....the house smells of burnt onion and he has already had to hoover up a broken, glass, saucepan lid :D

:D The fella hardly ever cooks and this is very similar to the experience when he does :D There's usually quite a lot of panicky muttered swearing, and dashing round the kitchen too heh.

Well, tonight's tea will have a starter of temple ball, followed by pizza/garlic bread/salad, then we're gonna watch 'Powaqqatsi'

Awww, poor lass, and fuck them for not telling you - half a day wasted!

Mmmm pickled egg though ;)

Dunno, I hate that. Not planned anything, can't be arsed to go to the shop. Had 3 hrs sleep last night and was on picket at 7am.

Might send the Mr to the chippy as penance for not joining his own picket. I haven't had curry sauce for bloody ages so either cheesy chips or chips and curry sauce.

I now want falafel or a Badger burger, but will likely be pasta again tonight.

Very poor form on their part mate :(

A nice ham shank. Didn't fancy soup though, so I'm just boiling it for a couple of hours then having it sliced with mustard mash & cabbage. The potatoes and cabbage being boiled in the ham-water of course. And there'll be loads of ham left over to be had cold on butties and that over the next few days.

Waitrose Toulouse sausages, with mash. Absolutely delicious. It was also my first time in a Waitrose, as one has newly opened nearby. Quite impressed, and not as dear as I thought they'd be.

I've never boiled a big bit of ham before. I think I should.

Tonight i made and ate mushroom and borlotti bean pasta. I used mixed dry mushrooms and the last of the fresh ones that needed using up. I added a little bit of chilli to give it some heat, needed tonight so cold!

Remember to soak it first or you run the risk of it being inedibly salty. Or you can boil it for 15 minutes or so, take it out and tip that water away, then resume boiling it in fresh water - That's meant to de-salt it as well.
Ta. Gonna have a pop at this at the weekend. I like big dinners that then have the added bonus of being that week's sarnies, too.

I finally threw my lovely dried porcini into a Loyd Grossman mushroom and tarragon sauce, as I finished work stupidly late again, and had it with pasta and some parmesan. Was well nice.
