What's for tea tonight? (#8)

I'm heading to the caff for fish and chips in a bit to get rid of the hangover, that way I'll be fully recovered for my curry and wine later ##greedy bastid## :D

I was getting excited about a lunch time fry up but remembered that the most decent cafe round here has been closed for three weeks with no sign on the door. So I think it's a goner. It was still a greasy spoon but they cooked the food well and the toast was proper bread. Not two slices of cardboard with shitty butter.

You need to go exploring - trying out caffs is top sport :)

Oh I know a couple of other decent ones. Trouble is they are a 15 minute or so walk. So that's half of lunch gone. I liked this place as it only took me a couple of minutes. I could pig out, enjoy my tea and read the paper without clockwatching.

Plus, I now work very close to where I grew up so I know the area like the back of my hand!

Last night's veggie sausage and chickpea stew was amazingly good - celery and carrots worked well in it. I usually use peppers.

Anyhoo - toneet I'll be making a veggie chilli, served with rice, sour cream, and pickled jalapenos. Gallons of wine first though

gonna have a coconut an lavender hot bath first coz a found a lonesome coconut in asda reduced ta 10p then W..W..MM. coz its weekeeeeeeeend. Wohoo.( I can feel it in me fingers i can feel it in me toes)

It is raining again - I can't work, so Friday afternoon cooking session with red wine. All and everybody is invited. Vegetarians expected.

I am lightly frying garlic, onion and carrot in olive oil with a little madras seasoning and whole black peppercorns.

I will add slices of sweet potato, green peppers, cumin seeds, mushrooms and lots of green beans. Leave to simmer for 1 hour.

Boil potatoes for a butter rich mash topping (later).

Salt to taste. Add tomatoes plus a bit of puree. Diced apples and frozen peas. Basil and oregano.

Leave to sit for 10 minutes off the heat.

Pour into very big baking dish. Top with mash. Comb mash with back of fork and layer slices of cheese. Into a moderate oven for 20 minutes.

Serve with fresh bread.

Should be ready about 7pm my time if anyone wants to come.

Roasted mushrooms, peppers, courgettes and aubergine chunks in big yorkshires, peas, corn on the cob.

I completely surprised myself by doing an excellent job on the fresh mackerel I bought. I know I eat a lot of mackerel and that sometimes it's less than stellar, to be utterly frank. Today I fried it in a titchy bit of oil and dished it up with cold cooked beetroot, coriander, cucumber and red onion salad, dressed with a bit of oil and some horseradish. Mopped up all the juices with some very nice bread from a new bakery in town.
It was made of absolute win, and no mistake. :D

BF was drunk so he accidentlily came away with one of those tomato shaped ketchup bottles, GBK salt in a metal tin and a jar of mustard.

: D

I went out for a curry with work a few weeks ago and came home with the salt and pepper off the table. I'm still finding salt in my handbag.

I bought one of those tomato things and can't bloody fill it, even with a funnel. I think they must use cheap ketchup or water it down. : (

Tonight we've had nothing as I ended up having an epic nap (4 hours) then my husband came home and fell asleep too. Rock and roll!

Was going to have beans on toast but we have no bread.

I have some rolls but not really anything to go in them. I'm tempted to fry the chorizo in the fridge and just eat that.

Fish pie done with haddock and smoked haddock in parsley sauce, peas. Meal planning for the contents of the veg box is looking pretty tasty this week.

The boy is working til later so I just had some salmon steak with scrambled egg, all covered in loads of black pepper and salt.
I might have a glass of wine

Second rate spag bol, hoofed down in a rush as I had to go out. Have since followed it up with some leftover cupcakes from a child's birthday party.

A nice ham shank. Didn't fancy soup though, so I'm just boiling it for a couple of hours then having it sliced with mustard mash & cabbage. The potatoes and cabbage being boiled in the ham-water of course. And there'll be loads of ham left over to be had cold on butties and that over the next few days.

In Ireland, we call that 'bacon and cabbage.'
