What's for tea tonight? (#8)

trying to use up the mountain of food that I have hoarded so out of the freezer; chicken, leek, mushroom pie with a potato and parsnip top with some sweetcorn and petit pois.

The next couple of days will be a challenge as i've run out of veg other than frozen peas and sweetcorn :D

Got a piece of fillet steak cheap in the coop! Shoulda been 4 pound odd but it was reduced ta 1 pound 12p. Gonna slice it and make a steak sarnie on a part baked baguette with loadsa caramelized onions, french mustard an mayo.

The remainder of yesterday's pork, with lemon & coriander cous cous, peppers, and whatever else I can be bothered to add.

mushroom dopiaza tonight if i'm feeling up to cooking. I seem to have a mystery ailment which has given me a high temperature with chills :( paracetamol is a wonder drug though so :)

Yesterday was a not-entirely-successful experiment...I really fancied something solid and reassuring, like pie and mash, or sausages and mash, but I was cooking with my very veggie other half's, so tried to do vegetable pie, vegetable sausages, carrot and parsnip mash, and shallot and mushroom gravy all on one plate. Er, didn't quite work. Veggie sausages are rank. :(

Today's experiment = miso soup starter, followed by smoked mackerel, sweetcorn and cottage cheese mashed together with a fork. Surprisingly nice.

Pasta. Again (all part of my economy drive because of horrendous phone & leccy bills).

Nice though. Pork mince, mushrooms, onions, garlic, peppers, tomatoes, sweetcorn, chilli, handsful* of chopped parsley and pasta shells.

*handfuls?

Jacket potato with cheese and beans, beans and cheese, and maybe cheesy beans on top. And possibly some spinach (cos kitty p's got my mind set on it now).

CheeseBeansCheeseBeans eh?

We are having couscous with mushrooms, chorizo, red onion, garlic, herbs, tiny bit of chilli all TOPPED with cheese here.

Halloumi on top. Grilled Halloumi to be precise.

yesterday was chicken and mushroom pie. Finally got to the end of the shortcrust pastry now - am all pied out :D Dunno about today. Fridge is pretty empty but then after today i won't be eating at home until next Tuesday....:hmm: Maybe i should go wild and have take away

Veggie sausages are rank.

Which ones did you use? I really rate the Cauldron Lincolnshire saussies.

Tonight I am going to make a lovely warming Egyptian lentil soup, gonna make it nice and thick, and have with fuckoff big french stick, heavily buttered. I hate today and I am going to make it a little better with good food later on.

A paella with chicken and prawns (is it possible to omit the chorizo as I can't be bothered to go to the supermarket)

I can't remember, but they had Cumberland in the name somewhere. They tasted weirdly like sponge...for some reason when I was eating them I kept thinking they were the texture of lungs, or mold, and it put me right off. :(

Today I cooked an incredibly healthy lentil-parsnip-carrot stew...for which I have no appetite for, as I spent the crucial 'leave it to simmer and develop flavour stage' in bed eating Camembert. adulthood ftw :)

I did a sort of use-up-odds-and-ends out of the freezer supper tonight.

Hot and sour bean stew with chilli and mango ribs.

There were some pork spare ribs so I bunged them in cold water to thaw them then simmered them for a bit and when they'd tendered up a bit I hoicked them out and then marinaded them in the last dregs of a bottle of mango & chilli sauce mixed with a bit of oil shaken up in the bottle with it. Put in oven.

I then boiled some dried black eyed beans in the rib water. When they were tender I lobbed in a bit of tamarind paste, chillies, tomato juice, soy sauce, dab of honey. I then fossicked in the freezer and found the ends of frozen veg. Red cabbage, savoy cabbage, french beans, petit pois and also a bit of grated Bramley apple I found (I just kept tasting and trying to balance flavours till I got hot and sour). As an afterthought I lobbed in some mushrooms.

We're off out to the park for a picnic/play in the playground with a load of my daughter's friends/their mums (looking like it might well piss down, tbf :D  ) so am going to do wraps AGAIN just cos they're quick for when we get back....chicken, for today.

Posh lemon curd yoghurts for pudding (well, not for me actually cos there's only two left  ....I'll just beg a spoonful from each of theirs).

Lime and piri-piri pork skewers plus cous cous with a salad of beetroot and lambs lettuce. Is it too early to break open the chocolate?
