What's for tea tonight? (#8)

Oooh...... good idea, I know they sell ciabatta, rocket and steak in the garagey shop thing near me....

Mushrooms can fuck off though.

I also need avocado.... I need avocado!

I dunno what's for dinner. The chef hasn't told me what meat to get out of the freezer. I'm not going off piste.

Meanwhile. what do I do with a heap of beetroot - I'm failing at the whole cooking then rubbing off the skins thing. It's all too much effort. Can I just have toast and battlestar galactica please? and now I also have far too much baby spinach. /notdinner

Pickling, beetroot soup. Roast beetroot (I don't like that though).

Rubbing the skins off is easy? And I'm the first to admit that I'm a lazy cook.

yeah well I'm lazier. :D

I've been meaning to make beetroot soup for yonks

Maybe I need to get in some pastry and make several tart/flan/pie things.

I'm sure I've seen that in Foyles, worth a punt then?

Yep. It's overtly American, a bit spoddy and focused a bit too much on US varieties of chilli (plenty on Numex strains for example), but by gum it's a polished, authoritative tome. Highly detailed, useful sections on plant care and chilli history, plus a goodly number of decent, useful recipes and helpful preservation hints.

I bought it that and Dave Floyd's UK book (more relevant chilli guide to UK strains perhaps, but lighter and with a tacked on recipe section of dubious use) for about £20 all in from Amazon if that's any help. It's a good read really - if you've any love of chillis there's a good chance you'll find more than a little to interest you

Smoke river cobbler, jacket potato (with plenty of butter of course), steamfresh veg with a blob of mayo. Simple but satisfying.

Just got to wait another hour or so for the potato.

a really rubbish stir fry thing to use up some veg - I don't know why I do it though cos I never enjoy it  still, the MASSIVE glass of wine I'm about to pour myself will make up for it

Went out for a tasty Indian and for 3 in a BYOB place it was £20. We had pompadoms & the stuffles, rice, garlic naan, paneer masala, veggie dupizia & a mushroom dish. Plus wine & wine.

Taking the kids out for post-firstweekbackatschool/pre-dinner :D posh french cakes, then dropping them with their dad and back home for my ACTUAL dinner which will most prob be more of my USING UP GARDEN COURGETTES bulghur jobby, with king prawns, yellow pepper, mushrooms etc.

Cheers t, might have to get that.

Pea and Tarragon Soup (already made and in the fridge) with bread rolls and a salad of beetroot, radish, walnuts and a bit of cheese (i.e. stuff that needs eating up!)

I have no idea...but it's likely that I will still be in the pub so prob a cheese & onion cob & homemade chips for the bargain price of £1.75!!!

skirting around the ducks tongues and pig maw at the good chinese to find something the kids will eat tonight :D

have come up with: pork in peking sauce, lamb with cumin, chinese broccoli in oyster sauce, rice, veg chow mein and fried dumplings :) fingers crossed :hmm:

pasta with a chilli/tomato/veg sauce (using veg up) with lashings of parmesan and garlic

rather looking forward to it tbh

Quick tortelloni (Lidl's finest :D) with LG tomato and chilli sauce and parmesan. Filling stodge before a night of drinking and dancing.

last night ended up being 4 pints of Thatchers Gold cider* & chips & cheese cob plus a Boost bar with a mug of cammomile tea.

Tonight it's the dizzy heights of a Weightwatchers pasta dish & a salad from Subway. I'm at work and of late have been too busy too shop/cook plus freezer requires a good de-frosting.

* this drinking water malarky really does help. I had 3 pints in the pub plus a big glass with berocca at home. I have been at work since 7.45am & won't leave till around 9pm.
