What's for tea tonight? (#8)

Fresh chillis can vary hugely in strength and add a fresher taste than dried chilli powder, which is usually just uniformly hot.

Does it say chilli powder or dried chilli? Most Mexican recipes utilize dried chillis because each variety of local chilli has it's own particular taste (many are not hot) and are dried in a number of ways. For some, like the poblano, it's all about using smoked chillis and the taste that gives the dish, not the heat of it.

It asked for chilli powder. I can't remember if it specified a type of green chilli but it asked for fresh green chilli as well. It also asked for roasted red chilli of a not very hot variety - but this makes sense as it makes the dish a bit more exciting.

If it asked for mild chilli power I'd put it down to the powder being used to add colour - but the amount of regular chilli powder it asked for does not really have an impact on colour.

Sounds like a badly written recipe. I'd just make it as hot as you like it.

More likely badly recalled. It's from a Leith's cook book. Leith does don't do badly written recipes hence being puzzled by the dry and fresh chilli combination!

A not at all summery toad in the hole (with olive and tomato flavoured sausages) with broc, carrots and gravy. Seasonally inappropriate nom.

I've got a fairly bogstandard marguerita pizza that I'm gonna jazz up with sausage, chilli, olives and various sundried bits n bobs.

Ah, this was smoked mackerel with black pepper, forgot to say. Will have to try them fresh too, but loved these.
In which case... fresh is lovely too :D stuffed mackerel on a barbie  (writing oops for that smiley is sooo wrong, it's a drool/embarrassed smiley.... *harumph*)

Tonight is chicken and lots of veg (mushrooms, green beans, runner beans, pepper, asparagus, carrot) stir fry
^ I managed to make this pissed and it was lovely.

Why does that happen?! Is it just that it tastes better because you're pissed, or that you somehow add some extra flourish that you just can't recreate when you're sober? Has happened to me loads! :D

We've got strips of chicken breast and mushrooms in a creamy tarragon sauce. Might have it with rice or might have it with pasta :hmm: but will defo be having courgettes with it. :D

Strawberries for pudding, with yoghurt and maple syrup.

.
I'm going to steal your dinner idea as I have chicken breast fillets, mushrooms and creme fraiche (no tarragon but I do have lemons and puff pastry so I could make a pot pie!)

There is a huge pan of spicy meatballs simmering and it smells amazing so that with spaghetti.

Thought we should have some fresh food before the weekend as we'll be living on chilli in a can and mac cheese at endorse it.

Tonight is salmon and coconut lentils with asparagus

That sounds inventive - how did it turn out?

yesterday i had two fishcakes with tartare sauce, beans with a dash of Lee Perins, and a mountain of curly fries with melted cheese and mayo

tonight was my second favourite dinner: spaghetti with fried chorizo, onions, chilli flakes and olive oil, with extra mature cheddar. Dessert (yesterday and today) is (Sainsburys own) chocolate mousse.

Roasted sausages with diced bacon, mushrooms, shallots and jalepenos. Served on tortelinni in tomato sauce with spinach and a small sprinkle of grated cheese. Was really really good :)
