What's for tea tonight? (#8)

Never seen those finger guards, but seems a bit ott. Think I'll have to be stronger than that and let her get on with it.

RE the washing up - I have a habit of putting things which are not quite clean back in the pile of things to be washed up, which is apparently infuriating. But so's leaving mashed potato on pans and collanders!

We're heading to ikea when the boy gets home from work so hopefully dinner will be meatballs with chips and creamy gravy anda hot dog for pudding :D

Ta soj :) Neither do I really. Have just sat here being fucking grumpy for months. Walking round the block daily has loosened my back a bit though. At £40 a go for an osteo it's pretty expensive, but I'm coming round to the idea of enduring a bit of pain for a lot of gain. Finally

You might only need a couple of sessions chuck - far better that than being in agony. Good luck with it anyway :)

So do I :D Even though I never do it now, chap and daughter don't do it to my standards, and NEVER wring the dishcloth out properly. Have had to learn to keep me gob shut!
it's not hard is it? :D

Anyway, tonight I'm having lovely steak (probably sirloin), with greens and a couple of the boys chips <- I've not told him that yet :)

Not sure whether to have a starter :hmm:

We have a 4 year old here for the night and it's friday so no pretense of healthy eating. We're having chicken goujons, curly fries and beans with lashings of garlic mayo for me.

Chocolate cheesecake for pudding.

He also turned up with a bottle of wine and some roses (chocolates not flowers) so I said he can stay. : D

The biggest littlun (8) has decided she wants to cook properly like Daddy, so I made this her first proper attempt. I told her roughly how you make a pasta/sauce dish and just did the chopping myself.

Armed with pink mini-chef's hat and apron she collected basil from the garden, then got all the ingredients out and did all the cooking while I stood at the back drinking wine.

Pasta a la Leah

1tbsp olive oil
2 shallots, minced
2 cloves garlic, minced
10 slices of chorizo, cut into quarters, fried and drained of their oil
handful mushrooms, sliced
Handful of basil leaves, torn in half
300ml double cream
salt & pepper
Handful of grated Double Gloucester
400g Rigatoni pasta

Put the pasta on to cook.
Fry the onion and garlic in olive oil until soft.
Add the mushrooms and cook until soft, then chuck in the chorizo to heat through.
Stir in the cream and basil and season.
When hot add the cheese and stir until melted.
Mix the pasta and sauce, serve and top with more Double Gloucester.

For a first go it was really good, if rich enough to block arteries at 30 paces. She did manage to get a small burn on her finger but soldiered on. Well done my lovely girl :)

sounds delicious and very simple:cool:. I am a massive fan of spiralli pasta with onion, olive oil and chorizo, with black pepper and extra mature cheddar.

pasta + chorizo + olive oil + good cheese = heaven

tonight i had a pizza express pepperoni hot pizza (i added onion, mixed herbs and extra mature cheddar). It was soggy in the middle but i ate it anyway. Dessert was half a tub of strawberry Haagen Daz. Water and tea.

I did a 'not a risotto'. I cooked chopped bacon, onions and mushrooms in a frying pan with a knob of butter and then added stir fry veg plus petits pois and some flaked chillies. Meanwhile I made a pot of long grain rice with a bit of turmeric, then the whole lot stirred together in a large pot. Everyone except me is working until at least 2am, so it's nice for them to eat cold or microwave up when they get home.

pasta with a smoked salmon and cream cheese sauce

with value pasta, smoked salmon trimmings, value cream cheese and some black pepper. it was lush

Baked potato with hoummus, some cold cut up roasted peppers, some little polish fish (maybe anchovies) and peas. Bit of a leftovers/ storecupboard feast.

Yesterday I had a sirloin steak with mushroom sauce, cauliflower cheese and a steamed garden courgette then garden strawbs with maple syrup and clotted cream.

Not sure if I'll have to feed the kids tonight or not :hmm: but *I* will be having giant scampi, oven chips and courgette.
Oh and I may as well have some broccoli with that, too - just to do moonsi's head in. :p

A peanut cookie and a cup of tea for pudding.

Not actually sure if I'll have to feed the kids too :hmm: but am hoping not!

Herself is cooking risotto with asparagus, chicken and bacon. I suspect there'll be Cornish vanilla icecream with fresh strawberries for pud.

Roast dinner, which I am particularily looking forward to because our lovely (if a little small) potatoes have been provided by our garden and they are the first things (apart from herbs) that we've grown ourselves. :D

Tarragon and Thyme baked chicken, penne with roast vegetables and basil sauce and chick pea, avacado and pea shoot salad with orange dill dressing - yumdiddlyumptious!!!

Can't beat stuff you've grown yourself. Our spuds are ace right now, too. :) I'm having more of last night's chilli con carne for tea later.
