What's for tea tonight? (#8)

Veal and parmesan meatballs in tomato sauce with brown rice and a bit of salad on the side.

We shall be having kabli channa that my colleague made for me plus takeaway mixed Indian veg buna (their spelling) & some paneer dish. We will make our own rice and get a naan from the naan shop. Should cost no more than £6 as are having half portions of the curry dishes.

I shall finish the bottle of red I opened last night.

Minted lamb kebabs in pita with feta, red onions and cucumber.
Ginger cake, ice cream and red berries for pud

it was going to be pizza, garlic bread, fizzy pop and a chocolaty pudding (so long as there are n substituitons in me tescos order, as its the pizza express £10 meal deal) but having read foamys post i am tempted to for spicy lamb kebabs in pitta with red onions, cucumber, lettuce and some kind of sauce

The Mr has been away with work for 3 days and living on pork pies and crisps probably so I'm doing roast chicken, stuffing, roast spuds, broccoli and green beans.

We have some honeycomb ice cream for pud if there's room.

Wanna swap dinners? Ready made pizzas are really appealing to my lazy side!

Ohhh Ron - you STILL suffering with that? Jesus man, feel your pain. I had it intermittently when preggers, and it was fucking agony!

Cheers soj - the blinding agony bit's over but I still can't walk properly, let alone lie down in a field for three nights. Missing Beautiful Days this year too. Fucking doctor's useless  Will have to see an osteopath. Bollocks!

I can still cook though, and enjoy most of life's other pleasures, iyswim... Herself is pleased about that :D

Crisped up salami slices & egg on wholemeal, followed by the last of the cherries, and a mug of tea.

Something involving pasta, serrano ham, mushrooms, Double Gloucester and double cream.

The biggest littlun (8) has decided she wants to cook properly like Daddy, so I made this her first proper attempt. I told her roughly how you make a pasta/sauce dish and just did the chopping myself.

Armed with pink mini-chef's hat and apron she collected basil from the garden, then got all the ingredients out and did all the cooking while I stood at the back drinking wine.

Pasta a la Leah

1tbsp olive oil
2 shallots, minced
2 cloves garlic, minced
10 slices of chorizo, cut into quarters, fried and drained of their oil
handful mushrooms, sliced
Handful of basil leaves, torn in half
300ml double cream
salt & pepper
Handful of grated Double Gloucester
400g Rigatoni pasta

Put the pasta on to cook.
Fry the onion and garlic in olive oil until soft.
Add the mushrooms and cook until soft, then chuck in the chorizo to heat through.
Stir in the cream and basil and season.
When hot add the cheese and stir until melted.
Mix the pasta and sauce, serve and top with more Double Gloucester.

For a first go it was really good, if rich enough to block arteries at 30 paces. She did manage to get a small burn on her finger but soldiered on. Well done my lovely girl :)

Brilliant! I'm having that recipe too, cheers :)

Tonight it's just me and the cat so I'm having last night's chilli con carne. One of my better efforts, that was. Cumin and chocolate really make a difference.

I'm off camping shortly (in a camper) so my meals for the next 3 nights are all planned. We all eat together brining something each to a buffet table.

Friday: quiche, salad & potatoes. I'm taking a homemade leek, mushroom & emmental cheese quiche & making patatas bravas.

Saturday: pizza & pasta. Some folk are making homemade pizzas but I took advantage of the Pizza Express BOGOF. I believe we are having homemade pasta.

Sunday: Sunday roast with veggie/meat suasages, mash, roasties, plenty of veg & a lentil bake.

I have also made mini veggie sausage rolls & a banana loaf. Plus there will be plenty of birthday cake.

Am hoping that my ex will help me finish putting the trampoline up when he comes to collect the kids, so will be offering a freezer dinner as payment :hmm: .....battered haddock, oven chips and garden courgettes.

And then, hopefully, PEACE AND QUIET for pudding.

Good stuff, she'll be chuffed to hear that Ron. I would suggest using single cream though, unless you like your pasta sauce rich enough to bring on gout :D

I'm going to print it out now and add it to my recipe folder, should bring a smile to her face.

fantastic ringo :) did she enjoy doing it?

She loved it, but had the leave the last bit as she finally admitted it might be just a little too rich :D. I can tell she's really getting the cooking bug though, so glad I never pushed her too much and it was her idea to get stuck in.

Hardest part for me (apart from sharing my kitchen) will be letting her do the chopping next time. I know she'll cut herself but she has to learn how to do it, it'll be a tough one to watch.

Must be something to see her enjoying doing something you enjoy loads too :)

hehehe... I have to leave the kitchen when someone else is cooking :D

There might be a few things she can chop with a not very sharp knife, but then maybe a finger guard would be good until she's a little older if you're worried?

Aww, well hope you can see an osteowotsit soon then mate - don't know how you've put up with it for so long tbh!

I've just remembered we have a spinach and ricotta pizza int freezer and some shitty garlic bread, so we're on that for tea tonight

I am a TERRIBLE back seat chef when She is cooking. "You don't want to do it like that..."

Ta soj :) Neither do I really. Have just sat here being fucking grumpy for months. Walking round the block daily has loosened my back a bit though. At £40 a go for an osteo it's pretty expensive, but I'm coming round to the idea of enduring a bit of pain for a lot of gain. Finally
