What's for tea tonight? (#8)

Not sure tonight. Mrs Numbers has just left to go meet some pals for drinks and eats @
Dishoom in Carnaby, I would love to be doing the same.

I feel dreadful with a cold but am also very very hungry, thankfully.

Have a choice of soup, veggie lasagne or fish cakes/rice in the fridge but I really fancy some macaroni cheese and jerk chicken from the local West Indian or getting a chicken shish and chips from the local Turkish.

Hope you feel better soon! Sounds like you need a treat for tea tbh :)

Thanks, and it does doesn’t it.

Have you ever tried the Caribbean around our ends? Four Seasons, on the Barking Rd close to where it joins Balaam.

Is that about halfway between here and the vet? I can't think of one of that name by Balaam but more up towards Greengate? Not tried it yet, I assume your mentioning it is a recommendation :D

We don't get takeaways much (just massive pit of debt and financial horror that I am trying not to think about too much) but will investigate at some point :)

Are their fish dishes good? That is what OH would go for. (I'm more than happy with Jerk Chicken - edit to add or Curried Goat, just looking at their menu now!)

Just got home and I’m grumpy because Mr Looby is out there’s no bread and a tiny amount of milk. I was really looking forward to a pint of milk and beans on toast and I’d already put my PJs on. I’m also on call.

So then I decided to order food and chose mushroom chow mein and veggie spring rolls over groceries. 👍

I might drink the last of the milk anyway just to be petty.

I feel less grumpy now I’ve had my chow mein. :D
I still really want a pint of milk though.

My OH doesn't drink milk but I completely get the scenario - just let me know if you've used the last of the bread rather than letting me find out when I want to eat some!

Yes!

Tbf he does loads and I feel bad moaning but twice in a week he’s finished the bread and not thought to buy more.

Sometimes I hide stuff just to see how long it is until he buys it or tells me we need it.

Him scraping every last bit of toothpaste out of the tube while a new one was hidden in a tampon box made me laugh more than it should have done. I’m such a cow and he’s so lovely.

I had the seafood set menu for 1 from a different curry place than usual. It wasn't that set as it gives you about four choices for each element which is a pretty good arrangement. I feel like I ate a lot of prawns and wish I'd gone for the veggie one. It was not bad, but not a patch on the usual place.

I'm defrosting a pack of chicken mini fillets. I don't think they'll be defrosted tonight but OH is working nights anyway and I am more or less nocturnal right now, so if I end up eating in the morning that is ok.

Been planning a big curry for a while (thanks to other people posting about their curries on this thread :D ), involving:

A chicken curry for me - I'm going Goan style type thing with coconut milk, it isn't going to be authentic but have googled a lot of recipes and kind of know where I am aiming with it in terms of the spice profile.
Basa and potato version for OH, hotter than mine.
Dal Palak.
Mushroom fried rice.

This may or may not happen within the next 24 hours, but is on the cards as The Next Meal I Am Properly Cooking.

For those that don't read the Sofa, Santino and I were celebrating the fact that the lump of cancer I had (a sarcoma) didn't spread, and so a very, very long month+ of worrying my head off is over, and I just have to have an operation in a couple of weeks, and so we ate SO MUCH FOOD.

We had a mixed starter with various salamis and cheeses and suppli and calamari and roast peppers and marinated artichokes and olives and prawns and chicken. And then, when we were really full, the main courses came. Santino had a carbonara, I had caccuicco seafood stew. We bravely made it most of the way through. We also drank a lot of wine.

And then we went to the pub and tested each other with questions from a 1983 edition of Trivial Pursuit for an hour. It was awesome.

That sounds like a brilliant night. So pleased for you.

Oh that is fantastic - cause for a celebration if ever there was one! And a lovely meal and night out by the sound of it - Love to you both xx

Great news mrsfran, definitely worth celebrating and that food sounds amazing

Lamb and green bean rogan josh tonight.
The lamb is currently marinating in rogan josh paste, I'll stick it in the slow cooker in a bit with loads of chopped onions and a tin of chopped toms.
Green beans will go in later.

Forgot to list last night's tea which was a total killer - a soup of new potatoes, cavalo nero, chickpeas, roast garlic, lemon and all the fresh herbs. A taste sensation.
I'm having soup for tea today and that sounds gorgeous and I very much fancy it. We don't have any Cavolo in the house tho', but do have some regular Kale.

Would you blend that or have it chunky?

The actual recipe called for chard, so I'd already made a substitute - I'd imagine kale will do just as well (although I used less than half the quantity of leaves - chard shrinks to barely nothing where cavolo and kale are both more robust)
