What's for tea tonight? (#8)

Round 2 of the bolognese, pasta type to be decided.

I wish I was having sausage and mash thanks to the above photo though! Will have to do that next week I think.

Caldeirada which is a fish stew . You buy a bag of mixed fish from the fishmonger ( mine was a fish van) . The main fish are ray / skate and corvina ( which has a dense white sweet meat ) . Layer of onions/ sliced peeled potatoes, garlic and tomato, layer of mixed fish , repeat first layer add white wine water simmer for about 40 mins and served with fresh coriander and fresh bread . Filling .

Sounds lush, will give it a go sometime! I do love all types of fish stew :)

Meatlessballs in tomato and courgette sauce with cheesy polenta. The tin of tomatoes was so acid that after putting in pinch after pinch of sugar I gave up and added a pinch of bicarb to tone it down a bit

This might give you some ideas for the dried limes, add whole when you are making rice or soups and apparently when ground in a food processor they are similar to sumac...

I currently have some dried limes which I bought because I thought my mum would like them but she's rejected them. I have a bit of an issue sometimes with cooked citrus, like with preserved lemons, that it just reminds me of toilet cleaner. So I don't know if I will use them. I don't need something that tastes like sumac as I have actual sumac. Maybe we should have a dried lime challenge.

My local Portuguese restaurant does a mean caldeirada. I've been fantasising about it slightly recently.

I've never had them (well, AFAIK) - are they sharp-tasting?

Yes, I'm just nibbling a bit off one now to answer this question. It's quite sherbety on it's own and actually much nicer than when I've made tea with them which is the main thing I've done with them in the past.

I think I'm just going for quick and easy tonight - I have a lot of yellow stickered chicken kievs in the freezer, so probably one of those with some chips done in the air fryer and some salad involving avocados and tomatoes that need using up.

Part 2 of the meatless balls, probably with spaghetti. Possibly a side of kale.

Side dish that is. Not like a side of smoked salmon.

I had smoked salmon for lunch, ASDA do packets of trimmings for not a lot (£1.70 for 120g), and this one was even better because it was 'Whoopsed'. :)

Roast dinner! Been to the pub for a couple of beers so hope we can still manage it.

I'm roasting a piece of gammon that I froze because I didn't eat it at christmas. He's having quorn roast. Roast potatoes, carrots, cabbage, peas, gravy.

Cherry bakewell pudding and custard for afters.

It's going to be epic!

Mrs Sas does gammon steaks in a casserole, with a tin of pineapple, so it cooks in the pineapple juice.
