What's for tea tonight? (#8)

Big thumbs up for the Lidl salmon fillets that I used for my blackened salmon for us plus guests yesterday - we'd bought them (fresh) early in December and popped them in the freezer as an emergency back up plan in case we couldn't get a whole side of fresh salmon in the couple of days before Xmas, even having been frozen for a few weeks they were bloody nice salmon fillets! My parents brought a rhubarb crumble (home made using rhubarb from their garden when it was harvested, then popped in the freezer - they are incredibly organised about this sort of thing) which we had for dessert with custard.

I still have some lovely King Edward spuds to use and it seems a waste to do anything but roast them because they really do make fantastic roasties, I wasn't sure what to have with them then I remembered that I have some pork loin steaks in the freezer.

So tonight I will have braised pork loin steaks (braised in cider with onions, mustard and herbs) with roast potatoes and peas (I might see if I have any leftover roast carrots/parsnips in the freezer, if so I'll bung them in too).
Remains of the rhubarb crumble for afters.

Tonight is butternut squash, chickpea and spinach curry using a home-made curry paste.

I'm also going to batch-cook a bunch of pearl barley this afternoon to make into salads with cucumber, roasted cherry tomatoes, roasted fennel, peas and artichokes. Tasty lunches for the week.

Stomach problems mate, continuing stomach fuckin problems :(

I had the chicken etc. not a huge amount, but then had really bad indigestion over night.
Back to soup for the rest of the week.
Not related to vast quantities of Cava at all, is it? That stuff eats away at your stomach.

In fact, booze in general is terrible for your belly. I used to get bad squits all the time when I was knocking it back.

I don’t know.
Probably either veg curry (with pataks paste) or veg stir fry.
Mr Looby has messed up my pepper plans slightly by raiding the packets for 3 red peppers for chilli so I’m now left with mostly orange instead of the rainbow. Annoying.

Himself has chicken and chorizo stew with crusty bread, small one has picnic dinner, and I a planning on making a ham and cheese toastie when I get back from work.

1 of the 2 main things (I have 4 separate stomach/gut problems in total) I have is hereditary the other wear and tear but I just have an extreme case of it, I've had it well before I started drinking Cava. Boozing never helps anything obvs but I don't quaff that much Cava, it's just my drink of choice

There was a time, and I think I read you saying similar before, there was a time I could knock back a bottle doing the washing up before even thinking I was having a drink, but those days are well and truly over.

Cheers tho' :)

Fair enough chap. Oh aye, a bottle of red while I was washing up the previous day's dishes, before I even started cooking that day. I'm fucking staggered when I look back :D

Hope you get it sorted x

Change of plan here anyway. I'm graciously giving the fella a lift to the station for a gig, so will now be having something easypeasy when I get back. Eggz on beanz on cheez on a mahoosive toasted slab of seedy wholemeal, liberally buttered. Dollop of hot sauce and lashings of black pepper too.

Then all of the chocolate. It's been a cunt of a day.

This sounds lovely. Would you mind sharing the recipe with me? Either here or by PM
Sure. I just made it up. I blitzed 1 onion, 3 cloves of garlic, 1inch piece of ginger, ground cumin, ground coriander, turmeric, curry powder, chilli flakes, salt and pepper with some oil - until it's a paste. Fry paste for a few minutes, add cubed butternut squash, stir then add about 400ml veg stock. Simmer for 10 mins, then add tin of drained chickpeas. Simmer for another 5 mins then add loads of chopped spinach. Let the spinach wilt, and add chopped coriander. That's it! It was pretty good.

Tex-Mex type stuff tonight!

Chicken fajitas for me and I'm doing a quorn/kidney bean/cannellini bean chilli for OH which he will probably turn into burritos tonight (but doing a big pot of it that he can have for the next few meals), with:
Refried beans, spicy potato wedges, guacamole, salsa, salad, sour cream etc.
