What's for tea tonight? (#8)

:D

Just me tonight  - roast duck breast with BILLIONS of peas from the garden and a small garden courgette too. Gonna do the peas in a little bit of leftover chicken stock and then use it to make a JUS  :D with the pan scrapings from the duck.
phwoargh.

Posh! We're having baked tatties with a baked bean FOAM :)
wtf?

this house is having pork with posh stuffing, peas, carrots and mash. baked chocolate banananananas for afters.

2 tings being cooked tonight.

Energy linguine :) wholemeal linguine, pesto, salad potatoes, french beans, garden peas and a pinch of parmesan - shall have just a nibble of this as it's for brekkie and lunch.

Fat loss soup :) fresh tomatoes, red onion, yellow pepper, celery, garlic, rapeseed oil, red wine vinegar and a pinch of paprika - shall mostly be eating this tonight, with some spicey bread.

black bean and pumpkin seed soup if I can make it work. I'm making it up as I go.

ooooh, that sounds properly nice - can you share your recipe? :)

last night we had fresh gnocchi with mushroom, broccoli and red pepper sauce.

tonight will be a broccoli, mushroom, chilli, 5-spice and sesame stir fry with brown nice - got to use up all the veg before going away for the weekend :)

most ready-made pastry you buy is dairy free (jus-roll) and it's common knowledge that stork blocks make the best pastry.... butter adds NOTHING to the taste - NOTHING!

( :( ;) )
tbf it only had one egg in, so I wouldn't count it as a quiche on that basis, more a tart.

I don't buy pastry that often (or make or eat it) but when I do it's pastry with butter in it! Butter adding no taste? NOTHING? who are you? :D

Tonight I'm having a very buttery quiche with salad.

Just me again and I was going to have a black bean quesadilla but my avocado's are all rock hard  so I'm going to have bulghur with king prawns, red onions and garlic, mushrooms, yellow pepper, courgette, peas and coriander with some soy sauce and tobasco chucked in.

I always seem to do this....have a dish which I make over and over again over a couple of months until I move onto the next one....does anyone else? :hmm:
Sometimes it makes sense - last summer I made caponata loads because I was overrun with fucking aubergines and tomatoes from the garden :D but sometimes it just comes out of nowhere but just becomes a standard/favourite/craving for a while and I'll have it loads but then eventually just completely forget about it again for ages.

It's like a series of ongoing pregnancy cravings......but without the pregnancy.

Yep, I get favourite dishes that I do over and over for a while, then they taper off and we have them occasionally.

Yup, I do it too. Went nuts over Melanzane Parmiggiana, 3 bean chilli, thai curries, at various stages.

Tonight - fried halloumi, potato salad, tomato salad, green salad  And lots of wine to induce the traditional pre-festie hangover :D

Mrs R spotted the sirloin steaks in the fridge I picked up on Monday and demanded to know why we might be eating baked spud when that was available :D

I did steak au poivre with boiled Charlotte potatoes in butter & chives and peas.

I finally get steak. That was one of the best meals I've eaten in my life. Fucking. Amazing.

Tonight will be the baked spud.

Kennedys Streatham - 2 x medium fish, 1 large chips, 1 x battered sausage, 1 x mushy peas.
Bill came a little over £15.
Is it me or are chippies getting expensive?

Anyway, it was nice.

Very, but not as bad as most fast food. We had our annual post-festival visit to a Burger King on Monday - 3 people's dog-burger & fries came to £23.

My first fast food meat burger in 23 years - minging. There won't be another in some years I hope.

Fairplay Ringo, you seem to be revelling in your new diet. And if it's any compensation, BK's about the worst of the big burger chains imo, a bad facsimile of a chargrilled proper burger - at least at McD's you get some weird Wonka food that bears little similarity to the food you'd cook yourself.

Tonight I'm lazy and it's some slow cooked chilli con carne from the freezer - from a massive pot cooked pre-Glasto - albeit dollied up with sour cream and the first of my (near) ripe chillies from the windowsills. Thoroughly looking forward to it.

Can't say I ate badly at Glasto mind. Pieminster, organic (sustainable) goan fish curry, awesome Cajun cookups from Yam the Cassava and much more. Some real treats there amongst the dross.

Yep, reckon that's true. This week is the first time in 3 months of eating it that meat hasn't felt weird. I guess it was bound to take a while to unlearn 23 years of eating behaviour, but at last I can just taste something without all the baggage that was previously associated with it.

Reassuring to find that crap meat still tastes crap and good quality free range meat keeps tasting better and better.

maybe just an egg snadwich or something. trying to be good, as friday night i'll be stuffing my face at a posh restaurant for the wee sister's graduation dinner... yum yum!

Have cut out refined carbs for 17 days in an effort to lose the 10 pounds I've been spending the past six months trying to lose. Fad diet, moi?

So tonight will be turkey tacos in lettuce wraps with salsa. Lettuce wraps, ffs.

Sorry but that really made me lol :D I think I may have expressed similar sentiments in the past!

I don't know what to have tonight. We've got nothing in the fridge and the boy is away for a week from tomorrow so I don't really want to do a massive shop. May have to be a cheeky takeaway

10 pounds in 17 days?

What about curry on Friday? And Hendo's birthday?

I fully intend to fall off the wagon this weekend, when my brother cooks pizza for me and I make this...

I'm willing it to be Sunday already!!! :D

I probably won't lose the whole 10 lbs in 17 days tbh - half of it would do. Then I get to eat carbs every other day for 17 days. It's OK actually - am eating TONS of veggies, especially salad, eggs, chicken and fish. Am craving crisps atm though due to severe sleep deprivation (night shifts). I am still going to curry night, but am planning to sack off the rice, naan and booze. :( Hendo's working on his birthday and is on a diet too! We drank every day at lunchtime and in the evening for three weeks while on holiday so something has to be done...

Oh honey, crisps are your achilles heel aren't they? You'll be alright though I reckon, get over that initial craving. I've been doing salads for the last couple of weeks now, and no refined carbs in the evenings (apart from tonight when I'm having quiche )... the hot days make it a lot easier.

Curry seems wrong without roti/chapati for me which is why I cancelled, not eating potatoes or pulses either :D :(

Poached salmon with a bumper salad and lime, ginger, honey and garlic dressing (which I will attempt to make myself):)
I will also be having Maltesers in bed as has become a recent habit (seems to give me excellent dreams though!)
