What's for tea tonight? (#8)

I've had a peppercorn grill which is basically a steak sized burger with lots of pepper bits on one side. Shallow fried, 5 mins each side on medium gas then five mins on low. Garlic phili cheese big dollop on top to offset the peppery ness.
potato waffles to go with.

I used to eat grillsteaks all the time when I lived in KTown. My sister used to make them for me. I feel all nostalgic now. I also used to have that frozen chicken and mushroom casserole with pimped Smash

Tonight we are having veggie chilli (red and orange peppers, mushrooms and kidney beans - cos the shop had run out of black ones) with bulgar wheat. Cheese, sour cream and jalapenos for the top.

Have you tried putting refried beans in your veggie chilli? I use that and as many different beans as an can find, so there is plenty for the freezer. My other half gets me to cook it for her vegan friends now whenever they come round. :)

However I'm excited. She doesn't eat beef and to me it works so well with chilli. My sister has got some ghost chilli meatballs, so I'm going to be using them tomorrow night.

Nah never tried that. Do you make your own or use the ones in the can? If you make your own, could you recommend a recipe? This one comes up top in my Google but no idea if if it's good or not. Quick and Easy Refried Beans Recipe how would you add them to chilli btw?

We've only got a tiny freezer box atm and it's almost full so we are just making enough chilli for today and tomorrow. I do love a multi bean chilli though.

Just the ones in a can. I should try making my own at some point, but would have to be to serve alone I guess rather then just dumping in a chilli. All I do is add them at the same time as the chopped toms. A small tin seems to give a good ratio to a full of tomatoes.

I got carried away when in the charity shops when out fitting our home. Bought a big fridge freezer and saw a single freezer unit next to it cheap, so bought that as well. That's in addition to the seperate fridge my other half bought for storing her veg in. :D

Thanks for the tip. I'll give that a go. I so have freezer envy! I really love being able to cook big meals and freeze them for a rainy/sad/tired day. We've got enough space for 4 or 5 tubs over left overs but right now it's full of fish fingers, chips and garrrrlick bread so pretty much winning

Our chilli was really good. The orange pepper smelt and tasted amazing. It was a good job too cos the red pepper was all minging inside. I'd literally only just bought it after work today as well

Roast squash with pecans, shallots and blue cheese with a sweet balsamic and chilli reduction thing I made with a shameful amount of sugar in it. served with new spuds roasted with garlic and paprika, a carrot and parsnip mash and kale

That sounds well fit.

Pizza because mapathon but didn't get enough so had the rest of the packet of last night's tortelloni when I got home with butter and parmesan.

Possibly the first recorded case of someone actually eating the always-significantly-less-than-actually-half of the packet that is left after one meal. Miraculously an inadequate amount of pasta was just right after an inadequate amount of pizza.

I've got a rubbish cold and I can't tell where hayfever ends and the cold begins
Boo - nasty! By the by though, I always lob a tin of refried beans in my 3 bean chillis. Makes it beautifully gloopy.

We ended up having the squeaky cheese last night, and I had a double choccy Magnum for afters too

Tonight will be spinach and ricotta tortellini, in a tomato, basil and mascarpone sauce.

Pudding: Banana with honey yoghurt and broken up cranberry and coconut Dr Karg snack things. Tasted more like breakfast than pudding but breakfast is my fave tbh.
