What's for tea tonight? (#8)

It is PISSING it down here. I'm fucked off at being back to reality. And I have no idea what to cook for tea.

I liked that cos I was in a similar state yesterday.

I still don't know what we are having for tea  *but* Im going to the shops after work so I get to choose whatever I like. Hopefully I'll have made my mind up in time :hmm:

I'm doing a roast with a Pork Fillet. Want to marinade it in honey, soy sauce and mustard, but it appears that there is no honey at my Dad's house. I've already gone to Aldi and Morrisons today. Ball ache.

Weird combination of using up leftovers and doing a fast day here :hmm: - a sausage each, with a steam/fried egg, griddled courgette and broccoli - and the kids will also have fried potatoes.
:hmm: :hmm: :hmm:

Strawbs/meringue/yoghurt for pudding.

I've had a peppercorn grill which is basically a steak sized burger with lots of pepper bits on one side. Shallow fried, 5 mins each side on medium gas then five mins on low. Garlic phili cheese big dollop on top to offset the peppery ness.
potato waffles to go with.

Last night, after coming up with a blank on Tesco :hmm: I Googled Dalepak Chinese style pork ribsteaks.

I first had them in 1991, when I worked at the market at St Martins in the fields, in a cafe up the road that used to have them as an addition to nice healthy granary bap :D along with a load of salad and some mayo. OMFG! I had one EVERY DAY for lunch.

Didn't even discover the frozen ones until a while after that, too - but I knew it was them as soon as I saw them given their fairly unusual shape...

OH LOOK! IT'S A RACK OF RIBS! :D

So I have always sporadically remembered them and bought them again (still always had them in a roll, or a pitta, with some leaves/cucumber/whatever, mayo and more recent additions of mustard and a plastic cheese slice) and I delved into search on the thread and it appears I've not had one since 2011 - WTF?!

ANYWAY - turned out Asda still do them, but with a string of negative reviews, lamenting the loss of the original Chinese style pork ribsteak - apparently replaced with an inferior tasting replica. I could weep :(

Tbf, the urban search gave some more recent results, too - Dalepak being one of the factories that was sending out horsemeat - so perhaps the explanation for the lack of flavour lies there... :hmm:

So you enjoy your peppercorn grillsteak with garlic philidelphia while you still can, Dotty :(

I'm feeling a little bit better today Thimble Queen , how about you?

The plan is to make potato salad with spring onions, and have with seasoned/fried halloumi, and a green salad, but my body keeps demanding a fuckton of pasta so it might be tomato and chilli sauce with fusilli, and some feta mixed in (and black olives). With garrrrlic bread.

Glad you're feeling better, lovely. I'm ok ta. I've got a rubbish cold and I can't tell where hayfever ends and the cold begins  Your tea sounds nice, both options.

Weather's taken a turn for the rainy so something warming and comforting on our end :)
