The thing about the Bible is that it is a very long book, written by a variety of people with different religious and political stances over many centuries. Hence it can be used to justify Tolstoyan anarcho-pacifism, but also warmongering fascism and genocide. It can be argued to stand for passive submission to authorities through to revolutionary resistance. I would guess the kind of people Trump is using it as a visual aid to appeal to are those who like things as described in the Old Testament Book of Joshua, which is an account of ethnic cleansing, genocide, war crimes and territory seizure - all “approved by God”.

And it is not an Old/New Testament split either - the New Testament may have lots of peace and love, but also the underlying threat that God will either actively condemn or at least allow the torturing of people for eternity if they don’t believe in exactly the right way - what is the right way being an argument that has led to “Christians” intermittently slaughtering each other for several thousand years....

The most well-known argument, the so-called Cyrus defense, holds that just as God used the ruler of the Persian Empire, Cyrus the Great, as a vessel to free Jews from the Babylonians, so can God use the ungodly Donald Trump as a vessel to free Christians from the captivity of a secular state. The conservative Supreme Court justices he appoints will overturn Roe v. Wade and protect Christian religious freedom from the LGBTQ movement. This is actually a longstanding Christian defense for ungodly political leaders, even used by German Christians who supported Hitler. Its emergence in the Trump era demonstrates how quickly evangelicals abandoned their apprehension to embrace a figure they believed could overcome their enemies.

See it’s worked, it’s got folks discussing the ethics of Christian belief instead of slagging Trump off.
He does believe what it says, basically the bible is God saying, if you don’t do what I say I’ll slap you down. Trump thinks the same.

Both are happening at the same time. People are pointing out Trump's cynical use of Christian religious symbols (despite himself not being at all Christian) for base political ends, and how that fails to jive with a significant portion of the Christian audience that he is trying to appeal to with such stunts. That sounds pretty slaggy-offy to me.

This is an entire thread dedicated to slagging off Trump. So in light of that it's a little irritating how some people are basically trying to backseat moderate sub-topics that naturally crop up within the thread, by implying that any such diversions are somehow part of some super-clever master plan to distract everyone from Trump. The orange twat is a fucking narcissist (there's that slagging off that's supposedly not happening any more!), so why the fuck would he want to distract attention away from himself? Especially by personally appearing in a public broadcast with a book in hand?

Theres a republicans for biden group. I think that ad might be from them but not sure. They have lots of money.
Might as well - perhaps that's what the Democratic Primaries were about

Legal Eagle explains the multiple ways in which Trump's church action was so egregious in America.

I saw this video yesterday! I'm subscribed to this channel, and it's a very different tone from the rest of his videos that I've seen. It really hit home for me how things are a bit different this time.
