What stupid shit has Trump done today?

Yup, Trumps been coached to make a statement that hedges his bets.

Fundamentalist Christians like Moore and his defenders don't see what all the fuss is about. I mentioned above that there's no or low minimum ages for marriage with parental approval in many states. This is down to lobbying by such Christians. These same folk are the staunchest backers of Trump and the current GOP.

For those who do Twitter, it's worth looking at the thread below and comments. Some of it is pretty upsetting though. :(

Basically, it's quite common for 20 and 30 something men to approach parents of pre teen girls to express an interest in 'courting' them. They spend time with them, sometimes there's a 'betrothal.' Then they date and marry as soon as possible/legal.

Basically, so long as full intercourse doesn't happen before marriage, all is fine. The idea is that the child can be moulded from an early age to be a good, compliant Christian wife and guaranteed virgin.

Even if she's 16 or 18 when married, the 10, 15 or 20 odd years older man will have been grooming her, with the support of her family and community, for many years.

I remember at least 10 girls in my high school class of about 150 were married before graduation when we were 17 and 18. A few were 'shotgun' weddings - they were pregnant or already had babies by graduation night. Most though went to churches where this was a common thing. A few had already dropped out when you can legally do so at 16.

These days, those girls would probably be home schooled.

All makes me feel very sick. For most Republicans though, this is just fine. :(

I heard about stuff like this decades ago from some Mormons I knew.

I think foreign tours are actually good for Trump.

According to this thread he's been doing fewer "stupid-shit" things on a daily basis! Awful speeches, obvious deferrence to authoritarian regimes as long as they give him a nice parade, stuff like that... but he's been far away and slightly out of sight!

Step forward the rest of the GoP!

He is going to institute military parades when he gets home, isn't he? He reportedly wanted tanks and missiles for his innaguration and now he's seen the PLA drilling - and if Putin tells him what they get going on in Red Square - he's going to have to try to match it.

His head is probably spinning with all the possibilities. I wonder what reception he'll get if he ever does go to the UK?

WILL THE HYPOCRISY NEVER END

I like cats, and dogs, and pictures of them, as many here know. :)

The pictures of Weinstein with Clinton or Weinstein or with Trump or Weinstein with anyone else (including those who've since accused him of sexual assault), aren't in the same league as the picture from just the other day of Donna Brazile with Former Sheriff Clarke. I'll explain why.

- The pictures with Weinstein were at public events, where lots of people "mingle" and there are often photographers there taking pictures for the media, the event sponsors, etc.
- They were taken before the accusations against Weinstein were public. There may have been rumours about, true, but there wasn't widespread acknowledgement or multiple public accusations about his abuse.
- Those in the photos with Weinstein weren't thinking of the potential "message" sent by the photo, or that it could be damaging to their reputation or credibility.

- The picture of Brazile and Clarke was taken within the past week, not at a public event, but somewhere separate, where the two had clearly met together, if only briefly.
- The picture was taken by Clarke or by someone on behalf of Clarke as it appeared first on his social media account, not in a paper or magazine.
- There is a catalog of human rights abuse accusations against Clarke during his tenure in office, and his political views are well known. Brazile or anyone posing for a photo with him would know this and would be aware that such a photo would at the least be controversial, at the worst, damaging to their reputation.
- Brazile formerly worked for the Democratic Party, and posed for a photo with one of the staunchest supporters of Trump and the current GOP - the opposition.

This was Brazile's response to an independent journalist who asked questions about the photo.

I suppose someone will still insist it's all just the same. Ah bless.

Oddly enough, outside the US, people tend to think the breakway Mormons are the main folks in America who go for underage marriage, along with plural marriage. It's actually your fairly ordinary fundamentalist Christians that support this "early marriage" thing. I suspect the rise in "home schooling" in the past couple decades has made it easier, as there are fewer opportunities for young girls to either find out about alternative ways of living/thinking and fewer people to turn to to report abuse. :(

:D you can't even respond to J Ed directly. You're now literally just posting like a child 'I'm not speaking to him but anyway heres what I think' incoming rolleyes

'someone' you child hahaha

It may have been wrong of me to credit Trump with not doing so much Stupid Shit.

Reporter: Did Russia's attempts to meddle in US elections come up in the conversations?

Trump: He said he didn't meddle, he said he didn't meddle. I asked him again. You can only ask so many times.

Reporter: Today?

Trump: "I just asked him again. He said he absolutely did not meddle in our election, he did not do what they are saying he did."

Reporter: Do you believe him?

Trump: "Well, look, I can't stand there and argue with him, I would rather have him get out of Syria, I would rather get to work with him on the Ukraine rather than arguing about whether or not... that whole thing was set up by the Democrats. Look at Podesta, look at all the things that they have done with the phony dossier. Those are the big events. But Putin said he did not do what they said he did. But we have a good feeling toward getting things done. If we had a relationship with Russia, that would be a good thing. In fact it would be a great thing, not a bad thing, because he could really help us on North Korea. We have a big problem with North Korea and China is helping us. And because of the lack of the relationship that we have with Russia, because of this artificial thing that's happening with this Democratic-inspired thing. We could really be helped a lot with Russia having to do with North Korea. You know you are talking about millions and millions of lives. This Isn't baby stuff, this is the real deal. And if Russia helped us in addition to China, that problem would go away a lot faster."

Reporter: On election meddling, did you ask him the question?

Trump: "Every time he sees me he says I didn't do that and I really believe that when he tells me that, he means it. But he says I didn't do that. I think he is very insulted by it, which is not a good thing for our country. Because again, if we had a relationship with Russia, North Korea which is our single biggest problem right now, it would help a lot. I think they are doing very well with respect to China, they have cut off financing, they have cut off lots of oil and lots of other things, lots of trade and it's having a big impact. But Russia on the other hand may be making up the difference. And if they are, that's not a good thing. So having a relationship with Russia would be a great thing especially as it relates to North Korea."

"Hillary had her stupid reset button that she spelled the word wrong, but she does not have what it takes to have that kind of relationship where you could call or you could do something. But this is really an artificial barrier that's put in front of us for solving problems with Russia. He says that very strongly, he really seems to be insulted by it and he says he didn't do it. He is very, very strong in the fact that he didn't do it. You have President Putin very strongly, vehemently says he has nothing to do with that. Now, you are not going to get into an argument, you are going to start talking about Syria and the Ukraine."

For some reason I think Krtek has forgotten to reply to this one and others so I will do it for him. He can thank me later on.

Excuse me I think you'll find that this is a thread about what Trump has done, if you want to have these long discussions about Donna Brazile then be my guest.. I will even subscribe to it and post to it but this thread is about Trump so can we please stay on topic?

This is what he likes about Presidenting, the pomp and ceremony, he loves parades, (hardly surprising since he has the self control of a small child), the Chinese realised this and gave him a show and had him eating out of their hand.

The main Trump news today seems to be that there is no news because apart from Fox news and one official photographer no American media has been allowed to follow him into the day's events at APEC.

Couldn't find this elsewhere as a stand alone so apologies for those who don't like Twitter. It's also inside the linked article.

They are smirking, and laughing. Deplorable doesn't cover it.

This is what 44 seconds of GOP senators not responding to questions about Roy Moore sounds like - CNNPolitics

I missed the detail earlier that Moore met the 14-year-old girl when she was at the courthouse where he worked as assistant DA for her mother's child custody hearing. Classy.

Report: Roy Moore had sexual encounter with a 14-year-old girl when he was 32

I'm sure this is fine.

Meanwhile, a Russian Spy Who Worked with Putin is Now In Charge of US Embassy Security!
Mr. Viktor Budanov and his son Dmitry run Elite Security Holdings, which was just awarded the $2.83 million contract to handle security for not only the Embassy, but US consulates in several cities to include St. Petersburg.
Mr. Budanov was a Soviet spy who became the director of the KGB's counter-intelligence division, and also headed the KGB branch in East Germany in the late 1980s. During that time, a young KGB officer named Vladimir Putin reported to him.

Meanwhile in Puerto Rico, these are the food parcels being given to families still homeless after the hurricane.

- Entree (means mains in the US): Tins of potted meat
- Carbs: Cheese crackers
- Fruit: Cherry flavoured sweets (a bit like Chewits)
- Pudding: Chocolate bar with peanuts

The Georgia-based party planning company contracted by FEMA to provide this crap probably got paid a bomb for it. :(

Someone on Twitter tried looking into them. Pretty murky.
