What stupid shit has Trump done today?

Bush was liberal???
I know Mulroney was Conservative...
but ok - the agreement is neo-liberal

live and learn

Neoliberalism, aka free-market fuckery, aka the reason things are so shit - I thought George Monbiot didn't do a terrible job of summing it up here:

Neoliberalism sees competition as the defining characteristic of human relations. It redefines citizens as consumers, whose democratic choices are best exercised by buying and selling, a process that rewards merit and punishes inefficiency. It maintains that “the market” delivers benefits that could never be achieved by planning.

Attempts to limit competition are treated as inimical to liberty. Tax and regulation should be minimised, public services should be privatised. The organisation of labour and collective bargaining by trade unions are portrayed as market distortions that impede the formation of a natural hierarchy of winners and losers. Inequality is recast as virtuous: a reward for utility and a generator of wealth, which trickles down to enrich everyone. Efforts to create a more equal society are both counterproductive and morally corrosive. The market ensures that everyone gets what they deserve.

We internalise and reproduce its creeds. The rich persuade themselves that they acquired their wealth through merit, ignoring the advantages – such as education, inheritance and class – that may have helped to secure it. The poor begin to blame themselves for their failures, even when they can do little to change their circumstances.

FFS Those free trade agreement are part and parcel of neo-liberalism.

Utterly pathetic, "socialists'' arguing for NAFTA.

Its not utterly pathetic, there are lots of reasons why a socialist [no quotes] might argue in favour of a free trade arrangement rather than economic nationalism and its often very dodgy national socialist and national capitalist political accompaniments.

It may have been wrong of me to credit Trump with not doing so much Stupid Shit.

Reporter: Did Russia's attempts to meddle in US elections come up in the conversations?

Trump: He said he didn't meddle, he said he didn't meddle. I asked him again. You can only ask so many times.

Reporter: Today?

Trump: "I just asked him again. He said he absolutely did not meddle in our election, he did not do what they are saying he did."

Reporter: Do you believe him?

Trump: "Well, look, I can't stand there and argue with him, I would rather have him get out of Syria, I would rather get to work with him on the Ukraine rather than arguing about whether or not... that whole thing was set up by the Democrats. Look at Podesta, look at all the things that they have done with the phony dossier. Those are the big events. But Putin said he did not do what they said he did. But we have a good feeling toward getting things done. If we had a relationship with Russia, that would be a good thing. In fact it would be a great thing, not a bad thing, because he could really help us on North Korea. We have a big problem with North Korea and China is helping us. And because of the lack of the relationship that we have with Russia, because of this artificial thing that's happening with this Democratic-inspired thing. We could really be helped a lot with Russia having to do with North Korea. You know you are talking about millions and millions of lives. This Isn't baby stuff, this is the real deal. And if Russia helped us in addition to China, that problem would go away a lot faster."

Reporter: On election meddling, did you ask him the question?

Trump: "Every time he sees me he says I didn't do that and I really believe that when he tells me that, he means it. But he says I didn't do that. I think he is very insulted by it, which is not a good thing for our country. Because again, if we had a relationship with Russia, North Korea which is our single biggest problem right now, it would help a lot. I think they are doing very well with respect to China, they have cut off financing, they have cut off lots of oil and lots of other things, lots of trade and it's having a big impact. But Russia on the other hand may be making up the difference. And if they are, that's not a good thing. So having a relationship with Russia would be a great thing especially as it relates to North Korea."

"Hillary had her stupid reset button that she spelled the word wrong, but she does not have what it takes to have that kind of relationship where you could call or you could do something. But this is really an artificial barrier that's put in front of us for solving problems with Russia. He says that very strongly, he really seems to be insulted by it and he says he didn't do it. He is very, very strong in the fact that he didn't do it. You have President Putin very strongly, vehemently says he has nothing to do with that. Now, you are not going to get into an argument, you are going to start talking about Syria and the Ukraine."

And this is the actual president of the US talking!
Please Mt Putin, can I have the Pee Pee tapes now?....@WaPo

This is what he likes about Presidenting, the pomp and ceremony, he loves parades, (hardly surprising since he has the self control of a small child), the Chinese realised this and gave him a show and had him eating out of their hand.

As did the SAs, hopefully we won't. The spectacle of giving thon absolute twat the full state visit treatment, will make the GP vomit and probably cause Lizzie to abdicate.

'a free trade agreement'

an agreement called NAFTA. Are these the same thing? heres a thing:
Battle Against Trans-Pacific Partnership Can Be Won in Congress

Nafta is between Canada, Mexico and the United States.
TPP is between nations that surround the Pacific Ocean.

All Natfa countries can join the TPP, not all TPP countries can join Nafta

One a separate note:

Under CETA, Scotland can now export their haggis duty-free, This is big news in my community, we are obsessed by all things Scottish. It was nice of the exporters to change the recipe to abide by our rules.

yes but the point that caught my eye in the article and the general point being 'neoliberal free trade agreements are not good for all'

The TPP trade agreement has been called “NAFTA on steroids” (referring to the disastrous North American Free Trade Agreement) and a “corporate coup against people and the planet.” It is one of three neoliberal trade agreements currently in the works. The TPP involves the United States, Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore and Vietnam, although other countries could join later.

The other agreements are the Trans-Atlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), between the United States and the European Union, and the Trade in Services Agreement (TiSA) involving many nations. TTIP has faced major public opposition in Europe. TiSA is not as well known as the other two but is opposed by postal unions in the United States because it threatens to privatize the U.S. Postal Service. Of these three, the TPP is closest to being approved. At this writing in mid-2016, opponents of the TPP are working to get members of Congress to commit to voting against it.

The TPP and similar deals go far beyond traditional trade issues such as tariffs, getting into many subject areas that normally would be governed by national laws. Among the TPP’s most damaging provisions is an investor-state dispute settlement process (ISDS) under which companies could sue governments for lost profits if the governments strengthen regulations or violate a vague minimum standard of treatment. Similar, but more limited, dispute processes in earlier trade deals have led to repeal of U.S. country-of-origin labeling requirements for meat and a pending challenge to the disapproval of the Keystone pipeline.

“People don’t realize Russia has been very, very heavily sanctioned,” Mr. Trump said. “And I feel that having Russia in a friendly posture, as opposed to always fighting with them, is an asset to the world and an asset to our country, not a liability.”

Mr. Brennan, appearing later on CNN’s “State of the Union,” suggested that the president was being manipulated by Mr. Putin.

“I think Mr. Putin is very clever in terms of playing to Mr. Trump’s interest in being flattered,” he said. “And also I think Mr. Trump is, for whatever reason, either intimidated by Mr. Putin, afraid of what he could do or what might come out as a result of these investigations.”

Ain't he just:D

"Mr. President, I know you're jet-lagged, but it would be great if you could send condolences to the victims of the mass shooting."

"Sure, now where's that template..."

Yeah, if he's going to pretend to care about children being shot in California yesterday he really needs to not copy and paste without changing the name of a previous mass shooting.

Congressman dismantles Jeff Sessions in epic 5-minute cross-examination – ThinkProgress

Congressman Jeffries making mincemeat of Sessions in his 5 minutes by repeating his own words back to him. For example,

But Jeffries noted that on February 23, 1999, during the Senate impeachment trial of Bill Clinton, Sessions told a story about a “young police officer” who said something inaccurate during a deposition in a federal lawsuit but then later corrected his statement. Sessions said it was “my decision whether the officer would be prosecuted for his perjury.”

Sessions said he “concluded that a sworn police officer who had told a plain lie under oath, even a young officer, should be prosecuted in order to preserve the rule of law and the integrity of the system.” In explaining his vote to convict Clinton and remove him from office, Sessions said “I cannot hold a young police officer to a different and higher standard than the President of the United States.”

But sadly, the US Congress has been so corrupted by the GOP, I expect Sessions' perjury to continue to be shrugged off.
