What stupid shit has Trump done today?

This one turned out to not be true ( on a phone so can't link).

Anyway Puerto Rico should be considering independence now.
That's about the only one that wasn't true though. Trump's delay in suspending the Jones Act to allow non US vessels to bring relief supplies to the island was true (and even before that, this legislation designed to "protect" us shipping by giving them a virtual monopoly over some areas, resulting in eye-watering costs for everything imported into Puerto Rico.) It's one law that's way past its sell by date.

In Regulation: The Jones Act's Bloody Cost

The infrastructure of the island is shattered - roads impassible, no electricity, water and sewage systems broken, schools, businesses, hospitals wiped out, people devastated, will take years to recover if ever and with a US president reminding them continuously of the debt they owe to the US government. Independence prolly isn't uppermost in people's minds just now. They're American citizens and the administration is fucking about with their lives.

Oh and his slating of the San Juan mayor, and evoking the popular racist trope of the "lazy latino" in his fucking tweet storm . . . my "Bastards, utter bastards," remark stands.

It just voted to become 51st state
But . . . it's still up to the government to "allow" it to become a state, and in the current political climate, I can't see that happening. They were stuffed before the storm, more stuffed now. :(

"And we're going to dedicate this trophy to all of those people that went through so much that we love — a part of our great state, really part of our great nation,"

What the fuck does that actually mean?

I've never been one for armchair diagnosis, but it's hard to ignore features of his behaviour that reflect Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Being unable to sympathise or show genuine compassion for other people, Trump either has to be told what to say by an adviser, of if off the lead, sometimes tries to imitate what he thinks people do and say in certain situations. And, he screws up most of the time, leaving his team and supporters struggling for ever more preposterous excuses for why he does and says shit.

Apologies for the non Twitter fans, but almost exactly a year ago, this independent journalist figured him out while people were either saying she was going over the top or that he'd never get elected, or both. Whole thread is worth a read. Just click it.

I waiting and watching to see POTUS use this conclusion from the Vagas shootings...

"MGM, which owned the Mandalay Bay property where the gunman is said to have fired from, was down about 3% on Monday morning", see people small numbers, Trump hotels are up 4%...

How can he suck at empty platitudes?
Also because he doesn't know how to talk to normal human beings normally. Most people know how to carry off empty platitudes but he basically has to autocue them as after this weekend's events even he realises that he will probably say utterly inappropriate shit if he deviates from a script written by people who have at least a vague understanding of humans.

So essentially we have a non-functioning human being, incapable of basic empathy in charge of the world's nuclear arsenal?

Oxfam slams US response in Puerto Rico as 'slow, inadequate'

The global nonprofit's president, Abby Maxman, said in a statementTuesday that the group is “outraged” at the U.S. government’s slow response in Puerto Rico, where more than half of the population is without clean drinking water and food and electricity are scarce in the wake of Hurricane Maria.

“We’re hearing excuses and criticism from the administration instead of a cohesive and compassionate response,” Maxman said.

The organization primarily focuses on humanitarian aid in developing nations and rarely helps wealthy countries like the U.S., but it said it is making an exception as the situation in Puerto Rico worsens.

Maxman said the group will join with Puerto Rican leaders to work with Congress and federal agencies to organize relief efforts, adding that a team has been sent to San Juan to provide direct resources to residents, particularly in rural communities.

“The US has more than enough resources to mobilize an emergency response but has failed to do so in a swift and robust manner,” she said.

Read a transcript of Trump’s Puerto Rico remarks - The Boston Globe

Highlights include -

Saying Puerto Ricans should be proud that only 16 people died - not like the real disaster of Hurricane Katrina when thousands died. (No doubt mentioned to counter claims that Maria was "his" Katrina.)

Blamed them for "throwing the budget out of whack," presumably due to the cost of emergency assistance.

Awarded himself an A+ for his administration's response to disasters in Texas and Florida, and pronounced efforts in Puerto Rico as "just as good."

Stated that local truck drivers were still not doing enough to help, no doubt referring to the lie originating in the right wing press that the Teamsters Union was forbidding them to drive for the relief effort, and of course ignoring that most of the island's roads are still badly damaged.

Barely mentioned the victims of the disaster, but managed to thank various military leaders and members of his cabinet for a "great job," sounding like he was accepting an Oscar.

Oh, and went to a church and flung paper towel rolls at the audience. :hmm:

Paper towels????????????

If only the US had a nice eloquent president that said the right things, like Reagan. Everything would be OK then, right?

Trump: “Well, thank you very much. It was a great trip and a beautiful place. I’ve been to Puerto Rico many times as, I think, most of you have known. And I’ve always loved it. And your weather is second to none”.
