What new foods have you tried recently?

Oh and Hawaiian poke bowl - absolutely lush, and felt healthy, but was a shit load of food, and a bit random.

Could eat every day!

Dang. I passed a purveyor of Hawaiian poke bowls the other day but eschewed them in favour of dirty vegan chicken burger which had a hot sauce I really, really didn't like on it. the chips were also too salty. would not recommend. my companion enjoyed the not a beef burger.

Jackfruit has two lives really, the ripe one tastes like fruit and the unripe one has the texture of meat and can take a flavour from other ingredients.

I've just had chipirones rellano in a sauce made from their ink. Not as good as I hoped but very good. I'll have them again.

I like pulled jackfruit. Maybe it wasn't seasoned enough, RubyToogood? Did someone else cook it for you? It does need a shit ton of flavour added to it.
It came from a sachet which is possibly the issue.

What I had did not have the texture of meat. It was more like pineapple.

McCoys Chip Shop snacks ("sea salted" flavour). Felt a little cheated as I thought they'd be crinkle cut crisps, but they're little mini-tiles obviously squished and formed from dehydrated mashed potato. Truly alarming levels of fat and salt - therefore delicious and hard to stop eating. Weirdly they really do have that slightly old-and-reheated-burnt-grease aroma you get off the deep fat fryers in chippies. It's like Pavlov's dog, I can smell the heart disease from a mile off but something about them instantly makes me think 'delicious chips in paper on a cold rainy day' and just makes my mouth water. Will probably, guiltily, buy again. Feel free to deter me if you know any awful facts about how they're made.

I used to make McCoys, though they didn't have these when I worked in the factory.

I'll try them and come back to you with info soon :)

Kombucha - not sure what the deal is with this. Has alleged woowoo health properties. Tastes like a slightly sour fizzy squash.
I just bought my first bottle after being reminded by a Youtuber ...

And the last at £2.65 !
Tastes a bit like cider .. :hmm:

I bought all the kit a while back, but never got around to it - plus a scientist somewhere said he wouldn't risk it ...
Perhaps when I retire I'll feel like brewing things.

So that's one ticked off... water kefir next ...

Tonight I'm trying this for the first time

These were really, really good. I think they're wood ear mushrooms, or very similar. I soaked them and put them in japchae.

Japchae is another thing I tried recently and have been eating obsessively since. This is the best recipe I've found. Obviously you can omit the meat if you want. It is absolutely fucking delicious.

Mini beetroot fritattas from Sainsburys, absolutely foul. I took a bite and then chucked it in the canal for the fish- El Jugs did his duty of eating the rest of them by drowning them in houmous.

Also did anyone try those green Heck vegan sausages? Also foul. Green sludgy nightmares that never seem cooked. Silages.
