What new foods have you tried recently?

I'd just like to add another vote for pomelo being bloody lovely.
Don't be scared.
That is all.
I've just pigged out on mine. Bloody lovely. If you can get one try it. The ones in Sudan were bigger, and sweeter. I'll settle for the ones they have here.

I've never seen one here but then I've never looked. Only had them in SE Asia and got a bit of a mania for them out there.

Strange....the ones I've had have been more of a grapefruity taste but not what I'd call very sweet. They are a bit drier than other citrus fruits I've had but that's fine by me.

I've only ever had one. Maybe I should try another one - I didn't find it bitter or sour enough. But I probably got it from tesco :D It sounds like your experiences might be more informed.

Heck vegan sausages, absolutely foul. don't bother. Now I wouldn't have expected it but Icelands vegan sausages are really nice. They're a bit small, but at least they aren't mush in slime like the Heck ones.

We knick named them baby's head because the ones we got were as big as a baby's head. There used to be a fruit stall stacked high with them just round the corner. They were only pence each.

They probably taste different when they are here. All the fruit in SE Asia is absolutely fucking incredible and usually different when you get what is supposed to be the same thing here. Sadly. :(

We love avocados which we get direct from the tree. As with other fruit that's properly ripened, the flavour is so good compared to UK supermarket fruits. Although the oranges here are awful straight from the tree.

It's the bananas for me that a really just so amazing out there. They give me indigestion if I eat bananas here but the little sweet Asian bananas that have ripened on the plant.....oh my they are beautiful!

In Mexico they have all kinds of different bananas, including pink ones. They don't travel well though :(

Fruit and veg in this country is a disgrace. Even in Europe it's so much better

Also the fruits and vegetables are often not perfectly pretty specimens.

I'd always prefer an ugly but tasty fruit over a pretty and tasteless one.

I've just tried the "snack size" avocados. Tastes like a bitter avo. A bit disappointing really, even though I only expected them to taste of avo. There was no stone though.

japanese aubergine. Much less faff to prep
Two questions.
What prep do you do with aubergines that makes them any faff at all in the first place??
Secondly Japanese aubergines (nasu) just tend to be smaller, (maybe a tad lighter with a slightly thinner skin), what difference did you experience that made it easier to prepare?

They do snack size ones in Lidl, but they still have stones and look the correct shape.
I did hear a while back they were trying to breed a small stoneless one which you could eat the skin of like an apple.

I got these from the grower. The normal ones are full of flavour and have a butter like texture.

I do love avacados but they can be very hit and miss in the UK, even in the same batch. I generally eat them as they are as a snack, but it can be messy if you are out and about.

Pomelos are excellent.

We've had Tibetan ham and Tibetan Sambas in the last twenty four hours. Still not entirely sure what the Sambas were, but the ham could have rivalled anything they produce in Italy.

Samba sounds like tsampa - roast barley flour - usually diluted with tea and rolled into a ball/mash/paste/porridge (depends what texture you like) - Tibetan staple dish and the Dalai Lama's breakfast apparently
