What new foods have you tried recently?

Pickled walnuts. I didn't expect them to be the whole nut, shell and all, or so soft - I thought they'd be crunchy pickled nut meat. But they're great for livening up salads, where there are other crunchy things to disguise the disturbing texture.

Soreen chocolate malt loaf - a disappointment - not chocolaty enough to satisfy chocolate cravings, but the chocolate detracts from the fruity maltyness. Might be better warmed.

I love them, but they look hideous, don't they, and yeah, feel weird. Everyone else in my house is repulsed by them, which puts me off a bit too :D

they look like old rock stars
I see your point.

Cavolo Cabbage/Black Kale. Very nice, would eat again.

Spinach and paneer samosa - nowhere near as good as they sound, but still pretty good. Disappointingly good, if that's a thing?

Lots of weird shit at a party I was at this weekend. One was a turkey ham and stilton pie. Errr, it was OK.

Another was some kind of cold, crispy crepe with nutella - this was absolutely amazing

Yet another was a kind of cheese mash potato, but formed into some aesthetically pleasing swirl, served cold. Also very good.

And I had some kind of indian snack food that looked like a chicken nugget...ish. It was longer/thinner, like a hot dog...and the crispy coating was like a panko breadcrumb. The filling seemed like it might be some sort of fake cheese, which makes sense given it was a veggie's birthday party. It was fucking disgusting. Would not eat again, ever! :(

Achacha.

Bought some in Marks the other day out of curiousity - never heard of them before. Grown in Australia so the air miles are a bit wrong, but nice and sweet/tangy.

I had some of lidls dollop of pesto and humus on some toast ....the combo works rather well ....there is caramelised onion one too... tried also ....pestos better...methinks

I just tried Korean green onion salad.

I made it myself, so it was in no way authentic. I used kashmiri chilli powder instead of korean red pepper flakes, for one.

Even still, it was fully amazeballs! I'm making this again. Lots. It was so good. I love spring onions. I love chilli. I love sesame oil and seeds. I like 'tangy' food. This is my food.

I had it with garlic fried prawns. Lush!

Not my pic, though mine didn't look too dissimilar. The only difference was my red was more uniform, due to the powder over flakes.

Eat this food. You need it. But you don't need one of these:

...a "green onion slice cutter". I don't need one either. I didn't even know they existed 2 hours ago. But I really, really want one now

I forced deep down inside the suspicion that I must already have something that did this... a knife, perhaps? Total enabling, sorry :D

I'm going to have to try running onions through my bean slicer.

Tarte de la Abuela (grandmother's tarte) a type of chocolate ice-cream with some crunchy things in. It was very good but I was expecting more than just ice-cream.

I've just watched a badly auto-translated video on Youtube with the recipe for this. It seems to be basically vanilla custard and chocolate custard layered with biscuits.

I'll have to look for that. It doesn't sound like what I got. But if it's easy to make I'll try to do it.
