What new foods have you tried recently?

String hoppers - Sri Lankan/South Indian nests of rice noodles which you dunk into various sorts of curry and sambal

was a bit disappointed tbh, I'd been looking forward to trying them for ages and thought they'd be something special - Sri Lankan exiles sigh for them - but it's really just the nothing-taste of white rice with all the interest (such as it is) in the texture. It's like trying to eat a Weetabix made out of softened pot noodles - just when you think you've got the hang of it, they disintegrate in your hands and spill sauce down your front.

Not unpleasant - but I'll be sticking with the idlis and the dosas I think.

KGN Green Tea flavoured Basil Seed Drink - bought for my by the admin assistant at a place I work at - she reckons sabja (basil seeds) are really good for you and help cool you down when they're in a chilled drink.
Looks pretty much like frogspawn!

The texture is actually not as bad as I thought it would be - though a drink you can chew is a bit weird but its WAY too sweet!

I tried this recently as well, though mine was a different colour. Some fruit I'd never heard of. Was OK, but too sweet.

Tonight's pickle - grated beetroot - suspiciously sweet and moreish because it has added sugar, but a whole jar is only 200 kcals ... The beetroot and apple juice you can buy is properly minging IMHO, but this is somewhat moreish.

ive had a go at savory yeast.

a sandwich extra atm but i can see the potential for more.

im in why does it take so long to find these goodies....

Fresh mango. Fucking WOW!! Had it on a really hot day, and the fella was insisting I cut it up but he'd forgotten about the stone. I struggled womanfully for a while, then fucked off the knife and pulled the skin off with me fingers and noshed down on it :D Fuck me - seriously good, incredibly refreshing and nourishing! I don't usually like much fruit but this was something else!:cool::cool::cool:

what's savory yeast and what's the point of it?
If its the same thing I buy occasionally, its in flakes, and I sometimes sprinkle it on pasta etc instead of parmesan - if you're vegan or trying to cut down on dairy its a way of getting a cheesy type taste
Also its nice on toast with margarine/butter/olive oil and grilled tomatoes

I had some Danish chocolate coated chilli liquorice raspberry sweets. They were like "Raspberry! Chocolate! Liquorice! Chilli!" in that order. They were quite surprising but I liked them.

I also had a bit of dragonfruit in my fruit salad today which I can live with not ever having again. It might not have been the best though, it's hard to tell. I didn't get into sweet potatoes for ages because the first one I had was crap.

Pork floss and fish floss. Both quite pleasant.
I really wanted to like pork floss because it's so ridiculous, but unfortunetly, it's not for me.

Dragon fruit is the single most disappointing food I've ever tried. How can something that looks like this:

...taste so bland?? :confused::(

They aren't something that can be eaten any way other than super fresh. Even the 2 day old ones I tried in Thailand were meh compared to fresher ones. I'm still not convinced they're all that even then.

Sweets sound fantastic!

Dragonfruit is a real disappointment. If it didn't look so lovely, no one would bother.
