what bird burns your spring?

Our blackbird nest appears to have been abandoned :(
Haven't seen either of them for the last couple of days.

I fed a robin in the bike shed this morning - always keep bird seed in my pannier - not sure if it's the same one I saw last year. :)

You're safe from the goose as long as you just keep walking past and ignore it. If you don't react, it just sort of assumes you're a natural phenomenon I think. It will keep hissing at you but that's because it's stupid and mindlessly aggressive. Back off, though, and it will come at you.

Had a marvellous sight this weekend. Saw 10 or so Red Kites swooping down on a fox who was eating their food.

The fox was in a garden trying to eat several loaves of bread put out for the birds. It's mouth was full to the brim, but it was still trying to cram more in. The kites were circling above getting more and more pissed off:).

One kite swooped down and the fox stood it's ground. After a few more overhead passes the fox gave up and left with a mouth crammed with brown bread hanging out both sides.
The kites kept coming and we counted around 15 in all:eek:
I have some of it on film from my phone. I will get around to tidying it up and may post it somewhere.

Beautiful birds...and the fox was in great nick too.

This has been spotted in Wales and Devon:eek:
How much would I love to see this soaring overhead...Spectacular bearded vulture spotted for first time in UK

My God - there is a white stork in the fields next to our woods - A WHITE STORK! Not as rare as your bearded vulture, Ponyutd - about 20 birds are seen in Britain every year...and we have the photos to prove it. A absolutely massive thing with a ferocious bill - bold as you like, chasing after the tractor. It has been there for a couple of weeks - supposedly classed as a rare vagrant.
The kestrels are still not fledged and both lots of woodpeckers have been shrieking aloud, possibly with broods...although even though I am getting better with my monocular and Collins Field Guide, I am often not sure of what I am looking at. At night, lots of baby owls can be heard - little owls and tawnies, I think, although there is a barn owl which hunts across the water meadow
