For eggy bread?

At its most basic (there are sweet & savoury variations however) I just soak bread in beaten egg (on a plate, turn the bread to soak both sides) then whack it in a pan to fry it in sizzling butter.

Try it with crumpets if you feel like you need something to really soak up more butter and egg - bit too much for my taste really, bread is sufficient.

I crack the egg clean in the hole, whole, no beating or soaking

See I'd call that something different than eggy bread, never done it that way - not sure what I'd call it though!

I was watching "Further Back In Time For Dinner" last week and that is what they did during the war rationing episode, in order to fry reconstituted powdered egg :D

Apparently there are a lot of names for it, including "Egg in the basket" being widely used. Egg in a hole is what comes up most though.
