Are packet noodles a snack or a meal?

I've just stopped by to say that people who call their main meal of the day to be eaten in the evening "supper" (as in "kitchen supper") need stringing up from the nearest lamppost.

Supper is what you have before bed. For me it's usually one of the biggest meals of the day.
 
These are my current best noodles (sadly our local supermarket doesn't sell my actual favourites, 'MaMa' from Thailand), I usually add half an onion sliced, plus a handful of peas and sweetcorn from the freezer, for the simmer. Plus a spoon of chopped pickled chilli on top when it all goes into the bowl. that plus say an apple and a couple of biscuits, it's basically lunch :thumbs:

Not really, it’s deffo a snack.
And if you’re going to mention one seasoning then you have to acknowledge the others. So it’s a noodle soup, whether a snack or a meal.
It's one of the ingredients in a snack. The base of a snack. Like sliced bread is to a sandwich.
 
They sell a version designed to be eaten dry like crisps as i think kids were doing it anyway :D

I remember my mind being slightly blown 20 years ago when I volunteered in a school in Nepal and most of the kids had this for lunch.
 
dunno why carbs are so out of favour these days. People seem obsessed with them. They’re part of a balanced diet!
 
I loved the choice of instant noodles in China, but what I really like is that on Cathy Pacific in cattle class ( pre Covid) you could go to the galley and ask the cabin crew for a cup noodle at any time. Who needs a first class lounge and limousine transfers?
 
Almost nutrition free in the way most people intake them. With all the good stuff removed and is being basically just sugar.

A lifesaver if you're walking out of a jungle after a plain crash, but if you were preparing for a marathon, you might go for something better than potato starch.
I recently heard that some 19th century factory workers were fuelled by sweet tea...
My own diet is mostly carbs, but very low glycaemic for all-sorts of reasons....

Yeah, like making up random rules about calling meals dinner just because you eat them in the middle of the day...
 
The answer is both... Like drunken peckishness and drawers of instant noodles, definite snack. But egg and a bit of veg, definite meal. And various levels in between.
 
I was all on board until the lack of Shin Ramyun... :(
I forgot, we do usually have that one in, but for some reason my wife has gone off it. I prefer the non spicy packs, so won't get it in just for me.

They make an OK depression/exhaustion dinner. I might add some cheese and veg if I can be arsed. Prefer a beef n tomato pot noodle with bread and butter though if I'm in that kinda mood.

Yeah, you do have to cycle if you eat them with any regularity I think. For me it's just when I want a bit of nostalgia; a quick East Asia fix. But I'm able to make a decent stir fry for lunch every day, so don't bother often. Also the Samyang packets have the best designs. I tried their instant tteokbokki once (the one with the crying chicken), fuuuuuuuuuck that was hot.

I don't mind spicy noodle soups when I'm out in Malaysia visiting family, but can't get on with the spicy instant noodles like Samyang or Shin. Just feel a bit too much like spicy for spicy's sake.

They're expensive for what they are, but I like the frozen veg that comes in multipacks of little microwavable bags for this. Dump one in a pot with the noodles and water, give it a half-arsed stir, crack an egg into the middle after a minute and stick the lid on till it's cooked :thumbs:
