What are you baking?

I made apple and blueberry pie last night.
It turned out much better than I was hoping and was delicious with a dollop of special jersey clotted cream.

^^^^ It was lovely!!!! I forgot to take a doggy bag  :D

I made a Pan de muerto last friday, it was lovely. Did you try some Kittyp? :hmm:

I made croquembouche this weekend but rather stupidly didn't photograph it... Was quite small as I had to carry it on my bike, but for this reason I didn't make it hollow allowing a greater number of profiteroles. Had nougatine and everything... Had 4 different flavours; orange zest (with cloves and mace), cardamom (and a bit of nutmeg), white tea and vanilla. Tea was probably the least successful, but still not at all bad... Pleasing balance in the spices for the others, no soapy cardamom or overpowering cloves here thank you. Went down extremely well with the French guests at the engagement party to which I brought it, and there can be no higher compliment than that.

I made a lemon and yogurt cake today and the recipe called for vegetable oil rather than butter, the Internet said that grapeseed oil would be an acceptable, healthy alternative so I used that. The cake is moist, spongey and tangy/sweet  the grapeseed oil gives it an aftertaste though, tastes like Rusks.

My husband bought me Fiona Cairns birthday book from The Works so I'm going to attempt this teapot cake if I feel a bit better later in the week.

I'm shitting it slightly but I need practice with decoration and want to try my new tins.

Just need to track down some petal cutters and modeling paste. Might make mine pink and even polka dot if I don't get the cutters.

If it goes well I'm going to have a tea party and make it again. : )

The tin will be great for an Xmas pudding cake as I hate actual pudding.

You have to post a picture after.

We'll see! ; )

I've decided I'm not making the handle and spout as it's a fiver for the modelling paste and it's a practice run. I might not do all the fancy piping either and keep it a bit simpler.

I had some very over ripe bananas so have a banana loaf in the oven.
Not convinced it's gonna be ok as I am not feeling well, wasn't concentrating and creamed the eggs and sugar instead of butter and it was quite lumpy when it went in the oven.

So, I've done it. It's a bit ropey but tbh I've never done pretty much all the things I had to do on that cake.

Not anywhere near perfect but fairly pleased anyway.

No handle and spout as takes 2 days to dry.

Excuse all the baking crap around it! : o

I found a big lump of butter in the bottom of the mixer as I was pouring the mixture last night and I think the sponge was ok. Sure it'll be fine!

you don't buy modelling paste - buy normal sugarpaste and add a tsp of CMC/tylo powder to 500g of it :)

Made the Christmas cake today, using Nigel Slater's recipe. It was a bit tense as our oven is not like a western built-in oven, and it has a couple of holes in, so the timings were a bit off, but I think it was a success.
I really need to crack on and do the Christmas cake as this is my designated job this year. Haven't even started looking at recipes yet. What's Nigel Slater's like?

I love that recipe as I love nuts in my Xmas cake. Is the egg white icing alright unrefrigerated?
