What are you baking?

Thanks, that’s a good idea. Luckily no carving or shaping needed as I have these pans.

Still need to work out the base but I’ll just put black fondant round something. I wonder if I can find those rice crispy sheets like on Nailed It.
Fucking hell, this is far more effort than I really have time for but I’m committed now. 😄
Wow those tins look brilliant. I want to make ball cakes/

Finally got around to making the toffee apple cake as it's that time of year. I had to eat a bit because it stuck to the tin obviously. It's nice but could do with a bit more something. I think next time I would add a little pinch of salt and use plant milk and margarine rather than water and oil.

Mind you I didn't have muscovado so its just soft brown sugar which probably makes a difference.

My daughter made this today and it was really good, very bonfire night ish. The sugar turned to actual toffee! I agree that a pinch of salt might be nice too, and we were a bit freaked out by water and oil and no eggs (we are cake noobs really though), but it tasted good and MOIST.

I definitely use a bit of salt. Not sure why I didn't include that in the recipe, sorry

Can I have some advice please? I’m making a cake for a friend’s party. It’s not just me baking so not too much pressure.

It’s this one. I’ve got the right tin and will work out how to make a base.

I’m not sure what recipe or icing to use. I want it light but it needs to hold together. I always worry about chocolate cake being dry and someone else is doing red velvet.

I was going to do quite a stiff buttercream but am now thinking a white chocolate ganache that I paint.

Any ideas?
So the cake is made. I went for orange and lemon Madeira with citrus icing. I’ll get a pic later.

It looks a fucking mess, it’s cost me about 70 quid and has been really stressful.
Making cakes for events and other people is horrible and makes me anxious. Now I have to take a cake I’m not happy with. Next time I’m asked I’m saying no. 😄

Oh that's awful, baking should be something you enjoy and do for your own pleasure and to see the ones you love happy too - shouldn't be something to get stressed over.

I'd suggest to say no in future or offer to do something less involved - a beloved tried and tested recipe that you know you can knock out without any fuss and without spending a fortune.

EDIT: I am sure it tastes lush, which is the main thing.

We made pan de muertos or bread of the dead for Day of the Dead/Halloween. I've always wanted to try it but the Mexicans I've spoken to have always said it's really boring and shit and not to bother :D It's not! It's really nice. Sweet bread/cake with orange zest and aniseed seeds, and an orange glaze. Looking forward to eggy bread of the dead for breakfast tomorrow. I forgot to take a photo before I cut it but it looked really pony anyway (need more practice making dough bones) so will add a cut one in a mo.

Just baked some mini Xmas cakes so the house smells wonderful at the moment. I’m going to feed them with brandy over the next few weeks then wrap them in foil secured with red/green ribbon, put them into some of Mrs SFM’s specially made drawstring cloth bags and hand them out as pressies to the neighbours.
