So who's best?

Been looking for hours as to what's the best multi tool (ignoring what actual tools are on tool, but more concentrating on quality) and it really does seem to be six of one...

Have searched them all on here and people all seem to be happy with what they've got, but does one have a slight edge over another?

PS: I realise there's other cheaper and other more expensive ones, but these ones are sort of price range I'm looking at

Heclker & Koch, German engineering. The best in the world.

Decide what you want to do with it and work from there...

Basic leatherman or Gerber will both see you right unless you have a specfic need. Used both without
problems.
Never used the victornix multitool. The knives are great ,but, not as rugged as multitools

Not for me, but just want pretty much basic all rounder. Not for camping/killing anyone or anything like that.

Looking at these models:

Victorinox

Gerber 600

Leatherman Skeletool

Person using it has big hands, so wouldn't want something small.

Have also read some reviews that the blades on the knives of the Leatherman have snapped

They're all around the £50 mark

The Victorinox looks to be around 11.5cm (closed) and the Leatherman 10cm (closed). Haven't checked the Gerber, so not too much in them lengthwise. The Victorinox is also heavier which may put some people off but as he's a big guy, not sure that would be a problem, so really doesn't seem to be a huge amount between them (except reports of blades snapping on the Leatherman, and I don't know how common that problem is)

Oh, and the Victorinox has a cute little saw :D

My husband has had a Swiss Army knife for our whole married life. Always in his pocket. The saw has proved useful in a tight spot.

The leatherman looks the coolest and the blade looks the most useable out of the lot, but I've got a thing for serrated edges.

Cheers for this!
Himself now wants me to spend £70 on him for Christmas!!

:D

H&K make exceptionally good equipment, it is designed to be used in very punishing circumstances by special forces and crack police units, they also make sub-machine guns that are very highly regarded which appeal to the boy in many a man and tomboy :D

I'd like one just for the saw :D

There's this one as well (the rescue tool) which I'd like. It's flourescent and has a seatbelt cutter and a glass cutter. Looks like it would be good to keep in glove compartment of a car.

I don't drive or have a car though :(

You may like the Buck Redpoint that @NVP put m e onto. Had it a few weeks now and the only thing I have used it for is cutting selotape on a parcel that arrived from Amazon :D

Person mentioned Buck, but didn't provide a link, so couldn't figure out what she was talking about as nothing on Amazon

This looks closest to the one he has.

His doesn't have the hook thingy but has got two cross head screwdrivers.

Couldn't find a multitool on its own though

I have a Gerber Suspension which is ace, light but heavy enough to feel solid, comfortable grips and lovely sprung pliers. The saw is surprisingly good for cutting wood when you're in a tight spot and your proper saw breaks
Lost 3 of them and replaced with the same rather than getting something else, though I have been tempted by the skeletool or something similar (don't recognise the curved handle in your pic, but there's a similar leatherman to the gerber I have).

I'd definitely recommend a Gerber, but that's not saying anything bad about others, just that the quality of the gerber's I've had have all been excellent.

Amazon have got some,

I have an Amazon prime account and probably could get it shipped to you quite cheaply, do you want me to look into it for you?

Just noticed that Amazon in the US sells magazines for guns

Only two bad reviews, but one of them mentions the Leatherman blade snapping, but I've looked at loads of websites discussing them, and come across the problem mentioned elsewhere

Ah, now last night, I was on Customs & Excise site trying to figure out how much import duty/customs etc. would be, but because I don't understand it and am no good at maths, I just couldn't figure it out. There was a calculator somewhere where you added in shipping and insurance costs (can't even remember what tool I was looking at), but in the UK it was £47 and in the US it was $47, so after trying to calculate import etc. it seemed to come up as final cost would be £46 (I probably did it totally wrong) :D

Will pass this on and see if she's interested in those ones. Cheers Firky

I had the tip of a blade on one of my gerbers break when a friend was trying to use it to dig out a nail  but other than through incorrect use they've always been good, having said that I use the screwdrivers and scissors more often than the blade/saw.

Someone's not happy that they're made in China
