US election 2012

That was actually the rational part of his interview, he made a relatively decent point that Sandy allowed Obama to appear presidential (mainly by being the President) as part of the disaster response alongside Chris Christie and the other governors, while Romney basically disappeared off the airwaves.

That will be the narrative. That Sandy was a stroke of good luck for Obama, and that without it Romney would have won. Fox so far have been going on about Romney winning the popular vote (and you could see the presenter trying to play down the fact he'd just mentioned that it happened the other way around not too long ago), and one guy was saying that it just wasn't fair at all because single women are more numerous now than married women and Obama ran lots of abortion ads in Michigan and boo hoo hoo.

Miami-Dade County (2-1 Obama) has still only counted 40% of its vote, so it means there will deffo be a strong finish from the incumbent in Florida. Bugger could well even win it!

Have they even finished voting in Miami?

Loving the music they've got going on at Romney HQ. Seriously, that girl, she looks like what? 12? Cavorting around the stage like that? Mormons.

:D

Minnesota called for the Dems too - it's all on Ohio and Florida for Romney, nothing less will do as all his fall backs have stayed blue

I think they're counting them as people vote

If that's true it's mental. Instant feedback on your votes. Wonder how that would change things if all voting was like that. People seeing the results from the morning and getting out to vote on the evening because they can swing it, étc.

In one sense that is perhaps true - the contrast in the response with what happened during (the admittedly larger scale) Katrina was massive, and there was also the sight of people like Bloomberg (not that surprising) and Christie (surprising) warmly congratulating Obama on how much support he / the Federal Government had given them, their states and their citizens. Seeing someone who was labelled as an incompetent who was incapable of bipartisanship not be either of those things might have resonated with people.

In the sense Fox will try to spin it though - that it was a random* act that robbed Romney of a deserved win - it is of course wrong.

* Beck and his ilk will probably claim it wasnt random, of course.

Oh, I'm sure there was something not too long ago about some idiot trying to claim Obama did actually control the weather :D

Anyway, Florida: 84% reported. Obama 15,000 ahead.

Perennial election night shits and giggles: check out the DC vote as it comes in...

20% counted, 94% for Obama

Massachusetts becomes 18th state to legalize medical marijuana
“People with debilitating medical conditions and permission from their doctors will be able to buy marijuana from state-sanctioned distribution centers starting next year,” the Boston Globe reports, after voters “approved a ballot question that makes Massachusetts the 18th state to legalize medical marijuana.” All New England states, with the exception of New Hampshire, “now have legalized medical marijuana in some form.”
