Thanks for the hard work belboid. I'm going to spend the next few evenings going through the top 30 and other people's lists as there's lots I haven't heard.

I think more of mine placed than in any previous year, so I'm happy with Urban's judgement right now.

In descending order:
Brighde Chaimbeul - The Reeling
Lingua Ignota - Caligula
Little Simz - Grey Area
Nathalie Stern - Nerves and Skin
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Ghosteen
Daughters - You Won't Get What You Want
The Murder Capital - When I Have Fears
Teeth of the Sea - Wraith
Cross Record - Cross Record
Fontaines D.C. - Dogrel

Two questions for belboid:

- what does 'the "unsuccessful" number ones' mean?
- aren't you going to provide a list of the utter, utter shit? I'm sure everyone who, like me, is sure they're too cool for anything on their list to be included in that category would like the opportunity to point and laugh and the others.

whoops, missed this altogether.

Never mind, the only difference it would have likely made is moving the Sault album up a position or two...

Wow, only two of my 19 made it into the Urban top 20. I'm surprised by no mention at all, by anyone, of Charli XCX or Tropical Fuck Storm. The latter's effort this year wasn't as good as their debut, but still.

1. Fontaines D.C. - Dogrel
2. Good Fuck - Good Fuck
3. Westkust - Westkust
4. Blanck Mass - Animated Violence Mild
5. Amyl and the Sniffers - Amyl and the Sniffers
6. John - Out Here on the Fringes
7. Charli XCX - Charli
8. Cherubs - Immaculada High
9. Matmos - Plastic Anniversary
10. Proem - Until Here for Years
11. Tropical Fuck Storm - Braindrops
12. Clinic - Wheeltappers and Shunters
13. Plaid - Polymer
14. Steve Mason - About the Light
15. The Murder Capital - When I Have Fears
16. DJ Muggs and Mach Homy - Kill Em All
17. Xiu Xiu - Girl with Basket of Fruit
18. The Stargazer Lilies - Occabot
19. Ezra Furman - Twelve Nudes

Thanks for doing this, it's provided me with new stuff to discover.
How Self Esteem isn't the world's biggest pop star I can't fathom.

Even by my own standards this is a golden year, not heard* a single thing in that list  :D

*and I think I've only heard of about 3 of them :D

The only albums I've listened to and loved this year are the Little Simz, Billie Eilish and Anna Meredith ones. But that's more a matter of me not keeping up, so I didn't vote. In ten years time I'll have a better idea of 2019, but with a lot of help from this thread. Thanks everyone.

1 = Robyn @ Alexandra Palace
2 = Jesca Hoop @ the Barbican

Yours?

Nice.

Tough one. Of the top of my head (knowing I'll instantly regret some I've missed out/ forgotten) probably Fontaines, Martha, Alex Cameron, Ezra Furman, Stella Donnelly, Feet, Wu Tang, Dave, The Murder Capital, and Janelle Monae (albeit the last three were at festivals).

Argh, I totally missed the vote this year - probably the first I've missed for years and years.

My list probably would have contained these...in no particular order...

The Stroppies
Comet Gain
Fontaines DC
Michael Kiwanuka
Anna Meredith
Cate Le Bon
Haiku Salut
SVE
Oh Sees

...although I've spent most of this year listening to the Kikagaku Moyo album that came out last year, and a Masshysteri album from 2010, so don't ask me about 2019!
