Ukraine

If it were that simple, separatism as a concept would be dead in Quebec.
Who said it was simple?

The granting of language rights to Russian-speaking Ukrainians isn't a panacea for all ills. Doesn't mean it isn't the right thing to do.

I really don't get what you're on about here at all. Where's your point?

Are you thinking that I'm thinking that Putin is justified to invade in order to protect ethnic Russians?
.

I don't know. All I know is that in reading some of the comments on this thread about the plight of ethnic Russians in Ukraine, it seemed to me to have parallels with the way that Germany talked about the Sudeten Germans.

As for Godwins: people are invoking the deep and long history of Europe: Nazism and the Second World War are an important part of European recent history. Can't think of any reason to ignore it or pretend otherwise.- not even glib internet 'rules'.

And the French language has official status in Canada.

Where are you going with this?

Please don't do this on this thread.

Not sure what you mean by that, but it occured to me earlier today while reading about the Very Fascist Coup in Ukraine (so it seems, though doubtless made up of the usual genuine discontent on a number of levels)....
-it occured to me that Evil Foetus Face and friends might be really embarrassed if we end up seeing refugee camps full of Ukrainian jews fleeing from this latest Usual Suspects Enterprise to deliver yet another fresh warm beating society into the mouth-parts of the IMF and its swarm of pillaging neo-lib hordes.

I dunno, when we're not backing Jihadists and calling them 'activists' and democracy-yearners, we're backing Fascists and calling them 'activists' and democracy-yearners.

There is no contradiction between backing language rights in Ukraine and opposing Putin. Just because someone you don't like condemns something, that doesn't mean that you shouldn't think that thing is wrong too.

Did you quote me by mistake?

I'm not sure I oppose Putin actually, for the most part in international affairs he's managed to be the voice of reason. straight out of Life on Mars as far as sexual tolerance goes of course.

Are you actually serious?

Tell that to the relatives of several hundred thousand dead Chechens.

Wasn't that war started by Washingtons Drunkard in the Kremlin? Not saying Putin is a classic humanitarian, or even a nice bloke. But he is a competent leader. The US/UK leadership come over like complete imbeciles in comparison.

Putin found a perfetic basket-case Russia and made it relatively Serious and Organized again. If Real-Politik's your game, the mans a dab hand surely.

By the way all these pics of Putin flexing his abs and doing manly things mean fuck-all. If anything you're just laughing at the Russian population in general for being impressed by such things in their leadership.

Better some bloke that fancies himself as 'proper hench' than some bloke that looks like one of the pigs in the film Animal Farm thrown in a suit and falling about again.
