and your responses are based on? I've told you on what my opinion is based, but you seem to know better. What do you mean? I responded to something you said in each of my comments.

yep just like the big guy in a bar who accuses you of "looking at his bird" before glassing you.The West has been doing their best to humiliate Russia since the wall came down.
The coup in Ukraine was the last straw, lines needed to be drawn by the Kremlin.
that seems a poor analogyyep just like the big guy in a bar who accuses you of "looking at his bird" before glassing you.

Really? I thought it was an ok analogy, the west eying up regions that Russia has always seen as its own and Russia reacting to this "threat" in an overly aggressive manner.that seems a poor analogy
So just a blind response based on nothing from your side then?
you think there's no threat in the expansion of nato or the eu thenReally? I thought it was an ok analogy, the west eying up regions that Russia has always seen as its own and Russia reacting to this "threat" in an overly aggressive manner.
I never said there wasn'tyou think there's no threat in the expansion of nato or the eu then
"threat"I never said there wasn't
I'm sure the guy in the bar feels threatened too
I would rather see a expanding EU than an expanding Russia though.
Sounds like you should be treating these "other countries" with a much higher threat level than the Russians then.No just my experience in Russia has taught me to expect stupid shit from them, to expect them to try and gain access to information (no matter how innocuous or uninteresting I think it is) and yes to try and manipulate opinions no matter what level. And before you start with the old "stop picking on the Russians" shit, I am fully aware that they are not the only country doing this, its just that other countries tend to do it a bit more carefully and try not to get caught.
I certainly don't have a problem with the Baltic states being members of the EU, I do have problems with any glorification of Nazis in the Baltic states as in any other country including Russia and the UK. So what's your point here and how would you deal with it? Presumably by denying the Baltic states EU membership? How do you think this would combat far right sentiments? What, like in the Baltic states where they hold regular SS commemoration marches? And treat ethnic Russians as second class citizens? Would that float your boat?
Oh I do, but I have less concerns with what these other states do with any information they undoubtedly gather.Sounds like you should be treating these "other countries" with a much higher threat level than the Russians then.

Deja vous! The EU is supposed to be a collection of democracies so allowing the Baltic states to treat a minority as second class citizens and letting state sanctioned neo nazi commemorative marches happen without any sort of sanctions belies the democratic status of the EU. Why do you see no problem with this or in fact the new Ukraine government having neo nazis in ministerial positions and being backed by the EU?
I guess it depends on the type of business you're in. I doubt it has anything to do with intellectual property/ patents.Oh I do, but I have less concerns with what these other states do with any information they undoubtedly gather.
No nothing to do with intellectual property/patents.I guess it depends on the type of business you're in. I doubt it has anything to do with intellectual property/ patents.
What's your view on the Chinese?
Interesting point. I've also spent a fair bit of time working in all those countries. To be honest though, it didn't occur to me that Russia afforded any less freedom of movement than the UK. Just shrugged it of as the usual harassment you get from authorities anywhere in the world but, now you mention it, I didn't once have a problem in China. No nothing to do with intellectual property/patents.
My view on the Chinese? Only been there once and while I was there was given much more freedom of movement than I have had either in Russia or the USA.
Well when we work in Russia (by far the worst) we are confined to a walled compound, about 100m x 200m, in our free time and confined to a small office when we work. We are allowed 1 escorted trip for a couple of hours per week to the nearest town. We are constantly under supervision and it gets quite oppressive at times.Interesting point. Jeeeesus... So you do work for BlackwaterWell when we work in Russia (by far the worst) we are confined to a walled compound, about 100m x 200m, in our free time and confined to a small office when we work. In the US we live in motels/apartment complexes reserved for us, we are restricted to the towns that we work and live in, but at least it gives us a bit of walking space, we get 1 escorted visit to the nearest bigger town per week. Escorts tend to be a bit easier going though.
In China we get put up in good hotels, after work we get dropped off by our minders and are free to do whatever we want and go wherever we want until the next day when we get picked up for work again.
Nope I'm an International Civil Servant working for an International Organisation linked to the UN, to give you the generalised term.Jeeeesus... So you do work for Blackwater
Seriously though, had none of that myself. I did a 4 month stint in Moscow and had complete freedom of movement. Just the odd passport and visa checks (both very close to the Kremlin).
Went out to loads to bars/clubs and met a fair few ex-pats, none telling stories like that. All in all I had a hoot out there.
Deja vous!
How are ethnic Russians in the Baltic states being treated as second class citizens?
You are obviously either mistaken or you are spouting anti-Russian propaganda! How very dare you?Hopefully not as badly as the Russians are treating the Perm Mari, closing down schools where the Mari language is taught.
