Ukraine

It's hardly surprising that nationalist politicians wanted to overturn the decision when the corrupt Kremlin poodle was booted out of office,

Quite, it is indeed hardly surprising that Ukrainian ultra-nationalists want to make Ukrainian the only official language. What is a little more surprising is that you and apparently many others are so ready to see this as an innocent desire, completely understandable etc.

So Russian is still an official language in Ukraine.

As has been pointed out repeatedly and not challenged.

This thread is already riddled with Kremlin propaganda.

Laughable - (apart from CR, who has at least attempted to articulate some kind of analysis for his pro-Russian stance, even if it looks pretty weak in parts). What's amazing to me is how self-professed leftists have queued up to condemn Russia and happily lined up with nazi parties, western neo-imperial hawks and the whole shower of New Cold War warriors crawling out of the woodwork. EG you.

It's worth correcting some of the more blatant lies.

A "lie" that hasn't been told - at least not without pretty much instant correction.

Btw are you still cheering on the jihadists in Syria?

Except, I haven't. One lie gets corrected so you invent another one. Typical smear tactics, straight out of the Kremlin bag of tricks.

No. You still supporting the torturer and war criminal Assad?

Laughable. Have you thought about joining the SWP?

So in your view the secession of 2 million people from the Ukraine on the back of Russian military intervention wouldn't be getting much media attention if it weren't for the presence of right wingers in the new government?
What the media gives their attention to, against what really warrants their attention, is clearly subject to the agenda of the political narrative. So, here's the viewpoint that doesn't draw me into a falsehood and may answer your question:
the secession of 2 million people from the Ukraine wouldn't have been necessary if it weren't for the right wingers violently overthrowing a democratically elected government

edit: grammar

The EU and Ukraine have signed an agreement forging closer economic ties, in a show of support following Russia's annexation of Crimea.

Former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych's abandonment of the EU deal in November triggered protests, his removal and Russia's move into Crimea.

To be fair its really only a symbolic at as far as I can see. Most of the actual detail seems to be happening after the forthcoming elections (assuming they go ahead and its not decided that the situation with Russia is so volatile that they'll have to be delayed............)

That would be to overestimate this board's importance. We might like to think we're like this:

But let's face it, we're more like this:

The funny thing is that there have been quite a number of occasions in the past where threads that seemed like obvious propaganda from the likes of Russia were started in this part of u75.

However they were usually done by brand new members, who didn't stick around to argue their case for long if at all. I certainly wouldn't bother to start wondering whether any well known posters have ever been paid to take a certain line, especially since there are many other explanations for their stances and they tend to apply their views fairly consistently and don't limit their adoration to a single nation.

As for the relative unimportance of u75, this is always to be kept in mind but must be balanced against a number of factors. For example the resources needed to post a view here are exceptionally low. And even if they have no interest in even trying to sway the opinions of contributors to the active discussions that take place here, u75 does have quite a lot of google juice.

S

Still, nice that Yarosh basically admits illeagally plundering weapons. For anyone still not clear on who holds power in Kiew, don't hold your breath waiting for him to face charges.
Makes you wonder where the hastily gathered local defence militias got their (superior both in quality and quantity) weapons from, doesn't it?

My view on that is, who will get the most credibility, a new poster who appears makes a couple of posts and then disappears just as quickly, or an established poster who can be pushed to post in a certain direction by, for example bunging him a bit of cash? Not saying this is definitely the case but some threads have made me wonder.

Lifetime supply of Stolichnaya.

I-kraine,we-kraine, they all -kraine for Ukraine.

It's been a key issue for politicians since Ukraine became independent. Russian only became an official language in August 2012 under Yanukovych. It's hardly surprising that nationalist politicians wanted to overturn the decision when the corrupt Kremlin poodle was booted out of office, but only by 232 votes out of 450. And even then the acting President vetoed it. So Russian is still an official language in Ukraine. This thread is already riddled with Kremlin propaganda. It's worth correcting some of the more blatant lies.

So if you don't prefer [insert ethnicity here] nationalists over Russian nationalists you're obviously being paid by the Kremlin? Sweet.

Note: To be fair goldencitrone never made that claim, but Fuchs66's comments are tin-foil hat territory.

Interestingly the BBC had a piece of analysis on their website saying that Moldovans in moldova proper, not pridnestrovie/transnistria, are increasingly watching Russian TV channels for news about Ukraine which I find quite interesting given the deep animosity many of them understandably have towards the Russian state. I would be interested to read where they got this from....

Might they just be watching it in the way I watch Fox News to get insights about America?
