UK austerity has inflicted 'great misery' on citizens, UN says

Lat time the UN sent special rappouteur here, some years back that person spoke up about the state of it all, only to be labelled a marxist blood drinking witch in the Mail. It sticks with me because it was one of those this 'well fuck me, the bar is lower than I had thought' moments.

The UN has been hitting the UK for some time over austerity, the rights of the disabled, hate crime...

someone on the twitterbox pointed out that this is the first time since 31 that a government has deliberately impoverished the poorest. Told us they were going to do it, cheered when voting it through. I'm not sure if that 31 date is correct tho, they tell me thatchers lot gouged the shit out of ordinary people too

Thatch fucked the working class but the benefits system grew massively under her because she was more interested in destroying any vestige of collective organisation than in robbing paupers for their last few coppers. Not that it wasn't always part of the plan just that she didn't get to the endgame.

Krishnan GM was getting fairly indignant on C4 News with the junior minister who kept parroting the "more people in work than ever" party line.

It's the way that those in need are treated that's a true measure of the government's attitude. And if people in work are still living in poverty, needing food banks etc. then there's something very seriously wrong.

Why on earth do we keep voting for these bastard's? What's wrong with the electorate? Are they so blinkered they can't see what's happening, or do they just not give a fucking?

This makes me so angry.

I notice this time that they sent a white, British (presumably?) lawyer. It will be a bit harder for the gutter press to character-assassinate this one. Hard, but undoubtedly not impossible.

So you did you vote for then? In 2017, 2015, 2010?

Who were people supposed to vote for in 2010 and 2015 if they opposed austerity? (Leaving for the moment that what is called austerity on this thread is merely the latest incarnation of a politics that has been dominant since the late 70s)

It’s wrong to think that anyway, about killing them. I’d guess on the whole they’re probably decent people, and they genuinely think they’re doing the right thing? I don’t know anymore tbh.

deep down they're decent people so i eagerly anticipate them being wrapped in a shroud, a big rock by their feet, and being consigned to the bottom of the south sandwich trench

not too fussed if life is extinct before they enter the water

further to my previous post, the road to hell is paved with good intentions

I don't think they are. We just literally matter less to them, our lives are irrelevant nuisances. And when you listen to the likes of senior tories they are an actual menace, they really hate us. They look at the lives of the working poor in indonesia and wonder why they can't gouge us like that anymore- look at how genuinely angry they get when the slightest thing goes our way.

In the end though I don't suppose it matters day to day (unless we're interested in working out these peoples psychology in order to better work against it), a dangerous dog is a dangerous dog.
