Ipswich accept Sunderland's £13m offer for Connor Wickham
Ipswich Town have accepted Sunderland's £13m bid for their talented teenage striker Connor Wickham. Although only 18, the 6ft 3in England Under-21 player has attracted interest from Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur and will need to be persuaded that the Stadium of Light is the right destination.
Accordingly Wickham and his representative have scheduled lengthy talks with Steve Bruce and Niall Quinn, the chairman and manager respectively. They will attempt to convince a forward who has seemingly had his heart set on a move to his boyhood idols Liverpool that he will enjoy appreciably more first-team opportunities on Wearside .
Wickham made his senior debut for Ipswich at just 16 and has since scored 15 goals in 65 club appearances. While that is a less than startling ratio, Wickham was frequently deployed as a winger by Ipswich. Moreover the forward's long-term potential is considered immense and Bruce – whose offer is understood to involve £5m paid up-front with the remainder becoming payable on a fulfilment of assorted clauses – is braced for counter-bids from Liverpool, Arsenal and Spurs
