these are just epic ......drain the oil mix with lemon juice and or cider vinegar , and a bit of dried parsley ...chuck it all into a mediterranean salad mix and a few extra plum toms , warmed up french stick... sides of boursin and red pepper houmous ....bottle of Rioja ....and eat in the garden as the sun goes down .....perfect work de stress

Spanish Week at Lidl again, and the whole leg of jamón serrano is at its lowest price yet, £28.

I've had it before and as a Spaniard I can vouch for its good quality, so if you're a fan of Serrano I'd wholly recommend it.

Plenty of other appealing Spanish goods. The frozen churros at 99p are unbeatable (far more expensive at Spanish delis in London). For tips on how to cook them just PM me. The manchego cheese is pretty good value for money too.

Fish is much cheaper in Lidl than Morrisons.

I feel better for sharing that :)
Most things are much cheaper at Lidl.

You have to handle it to them (and Aldi I guess), When I first noticed them about 20 years ago they came across as a discount supermarket where you could expect cheap prices but not particularly good quality offerings. But they've proven themselves to be purveyors of pretty good quality produce. And even though it's frustrating not to have them available all year round, I love their seasonal stuff, both their grocery country-themed food and their homeware/ hardware/ DIY products.

And the wine can exceptional good value for money- they are by far the best supermarket for wine purchases, and if you feel like splashing out a bit, a £10- £15 bottle will get you an exceptionally good wine for the money.

Our local Lidl has been selling 100% linen jackets for 29€, and linen mix shirts for 10€ If you get them in the UK they're good value for money.

Their £10 champagne is cracking if you're a bit skint and want to celebrate.

These are the best supermarket anchovies around I reckon.

The white anchovies are processed differently. The brown, tinned ones, are salted these are treated in a way that is similar to rollmops.

Have to say we went to a Lidl in Mallorca last month and it was so much better stocked and more pleasant looking than what you get in England... not all lines were cheaper though.

I think it's the way it is perceived. Here it is just another supermarket which has interesting promotions. It isn't necessarily cheaper than others, but has a different range. It also advertises a lot on TV, especially the special offer items.

I haven't been to a Lidl in Spain, but the Aldi I know in Madrid is so much bigger and nicer than any I've been to here. They sell a fantastic Caesar salad for about €2.50 which afaik they don't sell over here - if they did I'd go out my way to get them.

Lidl do good ones here. Perhaps they are available in UK.

I'd have given you a like for your post but for this short paragraph.

Barolo (could be spelt Barollo). Will cost you a tenner, and it is a very, very good wine, IMO at least.

Unless I'm skint I try to go for Old World reds with a rating of at least 87-88 points. A number of those can be found for under £10 as well. I've never been disappointed.

Yeah, Lidl Barolo's not half bad. Nowhere near as good as a £25 bottle, but good enough at that price. I wouldn't ever drink Barolo if it weren't for Lidl's.

Omg, Alcoholic Dandelion & Burdock? Lidl or Aldi?

Get a £12.99 chocolate melting pot from Aldi if your local still has any in stock. It comes with a couple of molds as well (heart and Easter egg shaped). Before I got one of these I was faffing around with a saucepan and sugar bowl to make a 'bain marie' type thing, but it was a pain in the arse, and this is much easier.

My recommendations:

- get the Aldi 'Malibu' rip off and some fresh pineapple chunks, plus a couple of the 30p white chocolate bars.
- get a jar of the Morello cherries that Aldi stock in the run up to Christmas, and a bottle of cherry Kirsch/vodka from elsewhere, plus some of the 30p dark chocolate bars
- get some fresh raspberries and a bottle of Chambord and some dark and/or white chocolate

What you do is steep the fruit in the booze in a jar in the fridge for a few days, then coat them in melted chocolate. Try not to eat them before you gift them.

You're welcome. :)

I keep trying them now and again, but I'm still continually disappointed with the quality of Lidl's fresh meat. They're German, so naturally the cured stuff is pretty damned good, but the aged steaks they were pushing a while back were definitely cuts you wouldn't find elsewhere. Granted, I tend to stick to Morrisons and Costco for fresh meat and they're pretty good, but the gristly thing they called a rump steak in Lidl wouldn't go out on the shelves there.

Happy overall with just about everything else in Lidl.
