Has there been a survey?I agree. However, I think most people in Mexico would agree with Father Matthew's suggested name change...

probably not.Has there been a survey?
Sorry. I forgot she seldom farts, but when she does they smell of Incensemostly tears, i'm sure
Is your point, the Virgin Mary did farts?Sorry. I forgot she seldom farts, but when she does they smell of Incense
A fictional character or a fake virginWhat were all that about?
Ok a meagre effort.
It's exploring the duality of divinity. Part woman, part spirit to be prayed to.Is your point, the Virgin Mary did farts?
Seems a low blow. I do low drama sureptitious type farts regularly.

And St Peter will have noticed your "low blow" quip. That's an extra millennium or two in purgatory.
Mary is wholly human. Mother of God, but human
don't bother listing the greek and roman or other mythologically similar characters..
I think catholicism did sort of co-opt some paganistic ideas though, particularly being a bit fast and loose with the concepts of mono/polytheism, with the idea of the Trinity/The One and Mary and the saints who you can prey to, and who can put a word in for you with the big fella. And late pagan monotheism, seeing Zeus as the king of gods. It helped pave the way for Christianity and Christian conceptsI think Mary is just human according to Catholic theology? Otherwise that whole trinity doctrine problem has got even worse. Those singular one and only one true Gods are multiplying!

i would have thought that mithraism would be a more obvious example of late pagan monotheism.I think catholicism did sort of co-opt some paganistic ideas though, particularly being a bit fast and loose with the concepts of mono/polytheism, with the idea of the Trinity/The One and Mary and the saints who you can prey to, and who can put a word in for you with the big fella. If you are praying to Jesus you are praying to God the Father. Praying to the Holy Spirit is acknowledged as worthwhile and neglected under the current pontificate. The trinity is one of the things that are somewhat incomprehensible. Whether to independent scrutiny or to humanity is a question you bring up.Atheist here so I take no sides regardless of my background, but I have always found the differing preferences of devotion for God, Jesus, and Mary between the Catholic and various Protestant denominations quite interesting. I would suggest that Jesus comes third in the most prayed/ mentioned rankings in Catholic countries and communities, and that God trumps Jesus in Church of England territories, but Jesus comes up top in the US of A. In other words:
Catholic countries/ communities:
1. God
2. Virgin Mary
3. Jesus
Anglican and other European Protestant communities:
1. God
2. Jesus
USA-based Protestant churches :
1. Jesus
2. More Jesus
3. Jesus is my friend
4. Honorary mention to that God bloke who fathered Jesus
Spare a thought for poor old Holy Spirit, though

The creed does not use consubstantial in referring to the Holy Spirit. This is probably due to the particular historical development of the creed, which responded directly to Christological heresies and did not initially develop the theology of the Holy Spirit.
