The stupidity of the anti-vaxx nutcases

yeh

the interesting bit will be if/when they move onto somethign else if/when covid starts to receede. a lot of them, and i am not exagerating, from wha ti have seen spending a few months looking in on their groups back at the start, see this as somethign spiritual, like a conversion. "now that i am awake", etc. they talk and act like they have gone through a religious conversion. they've actually been spiritually abused in my view from right wing grifters, quacks, and other lunatics out for the likes. but they don't have the self awareness to see this.
There is "some" evidence that a number of these zealots are becoming [if not already] climate change deniers ...

[I recall a beeb article on the topic - I'll see if I can find it again]

yes it's fairly easy to slip in "evil global cabel" into that particular issue.

now if you take some nonesense from teh right we are all used to, say: "marxists are taking over the universities", while it might be infuriatingly dumb to suggest so, at least it's tangable. at least they can point to x, y, z proffessor, or course, or somethign. and then you can say "yes but teh university itself is largely funded by multinationals, so why would they be supporting somethign against their own interests?" etc. so in otherwords an argument based in some sort of tangability and matter in real time.

slip in something taht is working "behind the scenes" though and you're literally arguing with someone in another dimension. arguing with insanity, basically.

of course there may well be hidden forces working behind things, but anyone with half a brain won't suggest otherwise until that force is something tangable and evidence based.

what concerns me is that certain elements of the socialist movement are sprouting a line which goes -

"support the uneducated proletarian anti-vaxxers, don't let the right monopolise their propaganda, we need to offer a left wing critique which can appeal to them. oh did i mention.. you can still get sick with the vaccine!"

tossers

Well, the similarities I see are these:
Here is evidence of a worldwide problem and here are what we can do to remedy/mitigate it, but oh these things we can do are an inconvenience to me so I will deny there is a problem.
Selfish...

Late last night I had a visitor to my lonely pro-vax Paltalk room - set up to find intelligent conversation and hopefully learn new things ..
They claimed they were not only vaccinated, but also had an "associates degree in pharmacology" -and there was
a photo of a redacted certificate in their profile to that effect ...

... I explained the patchy nature of my understanding of biology ... so they get on the mic to give me a lesson ...

Their explanation of MRNA vaccines was so garbled I can't remember what they said, but when they got to the J&J, they started by trotting out a common trope that the J&J was a "traditional vaccine" and that it "contains thimerosal to "kill the virus" (SIC) (when it was only ever used as a bacteriocide in bulk vials and as part of the killing process in the pertussis (bacterial) vaccine).... and is not at all these days in US and Europe.
...
I cut them off as they were clearly going down the " we can't know the long term effects..." rabbithole.

After giving up trying to give them a brief explanation of the actual nature of adeno-vector vacccines as I understand them, they offered to show me their qualifications (preferable to the two visitors who put something far less savoury on cam before I could bounce them ...)

I gently excused myself from future contact ...

So this person claiming to be a pharmacy assistant was too lazy to "do the research" on how the vaccines actually work .. perhaps they actually failed their exam ...

Paltalk is desperately awful.

Almost everyone on Paltalk eventually lets the mask slip ...
I may translate my room into French in the hope of at least getting language exchange out of it - though existing French - speaking rooms don't offer much hope ...

Good work! a brave effort, you've done this so we don't have to. Many thanks

I'm not sure why I posted it ... I think I'm trying to get to grips with why people are like this ..

I do occasionally get to chat with genuine people but it's thin on the ground ...
we're only pulling your leg. crack on. it's intersting to read what these chambers are saying. i couldn't keep my eyes off some of them for months.

Sounds like you've set yourself up as a little honeypot for vaxx loons. <hat tip>

Name names
Some ordinary rank and file socialists have been saying things like that. I see certain things lefty celeb type leadership have said as the root. Example:

James Meadway (SWP educated, now Labour) - "The British left... collectively flunked the central challenge of covid politics. Failing, in its great majority, to oppose both mandatory vaccinations for NHS workers and vaccine passports was ... an offence against good public health management in favour of knee-jerk authoritarianism."

Meadway in Novara. Headline: "Vaccine Passports are still an Awful Idea: Say goodbye to the 1% of your life still free from surveillance"

Same line argued in Scotland by other SWP educated:

mate... the so called 'passport' is just an app on your phone with a QR code to prove vaccination/recent negative test/exemption... If someone can't use a phone they can show the paper certificate. why is that such a hassle? because your libertarian individual freedoms (to get other people sick) are being trampled on?

I am kind of anticipating being slated for this post, overlooking nuance etc. But collectivism vs individualism is what it comes down to for me. These nobs are only interested in saying outlandish nonsense to try and stay relevant as top table lefty slebs.

loneliness :(

I didn't think anyone in Europe used it any more. I know it's still quite popular in the middle east and some parts of Asia but I don't know anyone over here who uses it.

I always found it a bit sketchy. I used to use it to monitor hacker groups for upcoming DDoS attacks about ten years ago but they all left when it was discovered that the NSA could read everything on there.

Yes the Far East Karaoke rooms are probably perfectly normal - but yes - most English speakers are American, and make the UK Tories seem moderate ...
I would suggest we invade the place, but I like the way everything on Urban is preserved for posterity - and perhaps voice (plus text) chat encourages banality ...

It's also a fairly crap platform unless you pay for it - and even then the only screen-sharing is via webcam ...

There's an app called HelloTalk I've not used myself but seen recommended on a Chinese language learning forum, apparently heaving with ordinary Chinese folk wanting to practice their English, often pretty good English and you'd never be short of a conversation if you're not looking for them to teach you Chinese either.

Wasn't that mid-west fash rather than US fundies? Although there's rizzla papers between the two I guess.
I think fundies might have been before my involvement, but yes, the mid-West fash invasion was an absolute corker. "Someone" <stares around the place> tied them in knots, and started some kind of civil war amongst the board members, which resulted in one of the mods getting locked out of his own board :D :D :D

The one I was on included attacks on the US 'Mid-West White Pride' forum, where the mod online seemed to only have powers to delete single posts and not ban users, every time they deleted one post, another half a dozen posts appeared from various urbs, they just couldn't keep up with the attack. :D

And, the forum of the 'British People's Party', where I imbedded as 'the white knight', before trashing it with posts via a US proxy server. Woke-up next morning to find an e-mail saying they were sorry to have banned me, but my account had been hacked from the US, with login details for a replacement account, which I promptly used to trash it again. :D

I remember there was lots of spamming of longcat but, rather than think we were all interlopers causing fuckery, decided the board had been hacked and also that they knew who the culprits were haha.
