The stupidity of the anti-vaxx nutcases

it has certainly been pushed out there as an idea by some antivax supporters
I’m not sure what it achieves. The proposals are that you won’t be allowed to do some things unless you are vaccinated. Bring a vegan isn’t a protected characteristic, is it? Which means there is no law against discriminating against vegans. So being a vegan won’t stop you from being told you can’t do something unless you’re vaccinated.

Someone didn't read the article.

The paper cites legal experts who argue that vegans' beliefs are protected by employment law, after a 2020 tribunal concluded that ethical veganism was a protected status.

The right-wing political activist and former actor Laurence Fox was among those claiming to be vegan on Twitter. Fox has been a frequent agitator during the COVID-19 pandemic, urging members of the public to break public health guidelines.

After declaring himself vegan, he added, "I will only eat plant-based food and medium-rare sirloin steaks. And chicken, pork scratchings and salami."

This is a very long thread and I'm sure this has been covered. I'm a bit ill-informed on this subject, but surely if these people don't want to get vaccinated, that's just a form of natural selection? Ie, though it will be tremendously sad to lose their intellect from the gene pool, that's just evolution baby?

They are sitting ducks for covid, i know that. Which must be a whisper in the back of their heads. Good.

But surely you understand their decision affects others. They aren't selecting for themselves, they live in a community and risk spreading the virus

Largely yes, hence...

But, they are still a risk to the rest of us.

Is this the future of the political spectrum now, which was toxic enough as it is....left, right, centre and the new kid on the block: toxic paranoid end times nutcases. Is the genie out of the bottle? Every other week some crazed "cause" with a High daily rate of folk slidding down such rabit holes?

The weirdest thing about the FB groups I look into is the rolling nature of their "awakening". There is no fixed umbrella of beliefs, not even central themes. Looking at the feed over time, it reminds me of looking at the waltzers at the fair, one crazed theory spinning through, sucking ghem all in, then a gap, and the next cart comes into view spinning, sucking them all in.

If you think they seem batshit by what you read here and the odd news article, try spending 15 mins in one of their online spaces and you will see its ten times worse. It's really terrifying to see at times.

There was an ethical vegan sacked a couple of years back for ratting out his employer the League of Cruel Sports for investing money in companies that carried out animal testing. The judge at the tribunal ruled that this was a reasonable thing to do in that case. That doesn't set any binding legal precedents but it can be pointed to in later cases as something to consider.
Veganism is not a protected characteristic and whilst employers clearly can't sack an employee for refusing to eat a beefburger it doesn't offer any protection in law. It is not impossible (but far from certain) that a High Court Judge MIGHT rule that being an ethical vegan protects you from any demand to be vaxxed BUT the claimant would have to prove before a court that he was indeed an ethical vegan and lying to the beak is a very stupid thing to do. (Judges are not easy people to fool)
AND any decision by a Judge can be overruled by Parliament modifying the law.
It's this thing with the care workers again, A care home can't demand staff be vaccinated unless it puts it in their employment contract and it can't alter existing contracts without agreement but the Govt decided that all care workers must be vaxxed therefore that's it the law trumps any contract even retrospectively.
This is just another variation on the Freeman of the Land bollocks, "I Am A Sovereign Entity , No You're Fucking Not, Parliament and Parliament alone is Sovereign."

the genie has been out of the bottle for a while, trump gave it a voice coming right out of the white house (which is why it was important that clinton win, however odious her politics may be) but it was there already for years (in the states at least).

Can one be an ethical vegan at work and a meat eater on their days off?
Asking for a famous british twat.

Send us some links pretty please, I only see screenshots from people wadding in those waters.

Things kicking off in LA again, LA seems to have taken Portland's crown as "west coast city where dickheads are constantly starting shit". Anti-vaxxers have been picketing a restaurant that requires customers to be vaccinated:

Same freaks as from the breast cancer clinic recently. Don't think there's any proper stories about this latest shit yet, but here's one about a previous protest at the same place:

"My body, my choke." Yes, a choking sensation probably is one of the results of serious covid, so it's nice of her to be honest.

Another one who didn't read the linked article, the 'excuse' is about vaccines being tested on animals.
Again, they’ll need to demonstrate that they don’t use any other products tested on animals if they want to rely on that as a legal protection.

It’s worth bearing in mind that being gay offered no protection against a bakery refusing to make a cake celebrating gay marriage. Having a protected characteristic is not a universal right to do what you want. Businesses would not necessarily be prevented from requiring a vaccination certificate even if this does discriminate against a protected characteristic – it depends on the details.

there is case law that has determined ethical veganism to be a philosophical belief.
Not sure. There was a guy who was sacked by an animal rights charity and claimed he was being persecuted for his veganism, but he lost his case.

ETA: I must have misremembered. It was settled out of court in his favour.
