The self isolation thread.

More like *fanny* la rouge!
Well, what do you know. Under the new rules I suppose I have to self isolate.

I’ve got a new repeated mild cough and a mild headache and a runny nose. These symptoms are new in the last 24 hours.

They’re very mild, and nothing like the virus I had recently.

But the advice seems to be that I shouldn’t go out and about. “If you have a new persistent cough stay at home”.

I’m not saying it’s covid-19. It probably isn’t. But I don’t think I have any option but to self isolate in the current climate.

This is the sensible thing to do right now.

I have had most of the symptoms in the last 72 hours and have, in the past week, been in a location where COVID19 looks like it was rampant. I'm self-isolating not least because my office is now based in a major hospital. It's also not a problem for me to work from home (ironically I'm currently assisting urgent analysis and modelling of COVID19 spread).

My 2 year old has a cough since Friday and a mild temperature yesterday though that seems to have come down. I have a cold and have coughed a bit today though don’t have “a cough”. We’ve decided to isolate the family for the week though!

If your cough is new, then yes, you have one of the two symptoms and so proberably should. Go onto the NHS online for more information about what to do next.
Do you have plenty of reading material and someone to collect your supplies?
I do worry that loneliness and boredom will be the wost effects for many people in the next few weeks. :(

My downstairs neighbour's just decided to self-isolate. I'll be watching myself for symptoms, but I think I'm in the clear, unless SARS-cov2 is transmissible via text or wifi.

Only via 5g I believe... :hmm:

In precautionary isolation since last Tuesday due to having (mild but definite) symptoms (continuing) and a coworker who I sit next to with severe symptoms awaiting (still...) results of her test (9 days in she seems just about on the mend. I have to question the point of the test given how long it’s taking to get the results). Other half now in isolation due to new rules and developing cough and fever on Friday. It’s plague city here.

Dry cough or chesty? The advice I've had is that it's dry/rasping coughs that indicate C19, not productive ones.

Dry.

However, regardless of whether it’s C-19 (and it probably isn’t), the call to self-isolate casts quite a wide net. And I haven’t seen anything to suggest you get out of it by having a different sort of cough. All that’s needed are for it to be new and persistent.

It's occurred to me that, with a combination of surgery shutdown, some elderly and vulnerable clients I wouldn't want to take any risk on, and the potential closure of the College some time next week, and my solo bachelor lifestyle, I'm almost going to be moving into a position of de facto self-isolation. Obviously, there are social factors - including some Rather Pleasing ones - that I would not want to completely sacrifice, but it smooths the path to any possible self-isolation quite nicely. I've (finally) set up my landline, so I have good communications, I'm busy educating those close to me how to use video calling tools of various persuasions (I favour Zoom) to get in contact - not that it should ever matter, but I like the fact that Zoom is encrypted, where Skype (ugh, now we 'skype' people :( ) isn't.

And I have my lentils

How you feeling today danny la rouge ? If you get bored maybe an Isolation themed spotify playlist to share ?
I’m fine thanks. I honestly wouldn’t bother with these symptoms if it wasn’t for the current situation. But this is the new normal, so we have to adapt. What I’m bothered about is having to do this every time I get a cough. Which happens several times a year. Like most people, I can’t afford that. Which is where I can see this falling apart.

Me and Mrs Forward have been self isolating for the past week. We're sorted for supplies, thanks to me panic buying a shitload of whisky before our lockdown. Ooh... and someone from our brand new Mutual Aid Group (only set up yesterday) is picking up and dropping off a prescription for us later. It's really exciting to see a bit of practical anarchy in action.
