Pretty much all the boats have a covered area where they could hide from the weather, if anyone wanted to.

True. There was just one country who came out and before they realised it was their turn on camera they all looked a bit wet and misérable.

A lot of the athletes who are in the events tomorrow have bowed out so they can have an early night, so if they get ill it's their choice.

I guess the tiny countries wouldn't really be able to have some people hang back, but it's only a bit of rain, anyway. These are basically the healthiest people on earth - I'm sure they can cope.

I think previously athletes have mentioned about the amount of walking they have to do at the opening ceremony so perhaps this also means it’s less draining for them

Lots of athletes will never take part as their events start tomorrow eg cycling, end some sports have begun too

It's quite established that those who have sports over the weekend often won't attend.

Think there's been a bit of a thing because the schedules tend to follow a bit of a pattern, meaning the same sports have to make the decision whether to attend or focus on their prep each Games.

I think I fell asleep for about an hour and it still seems to be going on, it's more reminiscent of days of yore now though (fewer boats, more flashing lights and banging dance tracks, and me waking up and blearily wondering where I am)
