The Alt-Right

In hours of live-streamed video Thursday, a North Carolina man ranted against President Joe Biden, Democrats, illegal immigrants and the health care system while daring federal agents to shoot him – the trigger, he said, to detonate a bomb inside of the truck he’d parked outside of the Library of Congress.

Might as well go here, US lefty/anarcho folksinger David Rovics has been making some fucking odd choices lately:

do you have an opinion on this?

Um, basically that either liking Atzmon or interviewing Heimbach or going on Kevin Barrett's show alone could be written off as a lapse of judgement, but to do all three seems like... really committing to a certain position? Also, he really needs to get his story straight about Heimbach, at one point he writes "The closest thing I have come to "defense" is to recommend Gilad Atzmon's book, and to fail to see why it is that Matthew Heimbach is still considered to be a white nationalist now, when he isn't, as far as I can tell, from my many resources." Suggesting that interviewing Heimbach is fine because he's not a nazi anymore (and I would agree with this if it was the case, it is fine and good to interview people who have genuinely left the far-right). But then he says "the author lays out why they think Heimbach is still a fascist, and what he did over the years as a fascist. None of this is relevant, given that I think talking to members of the far right, under the right circumstances, is something that needs to happen constantly, daily, all the time, and in public, whenever possible to have reasonable discourse, as I had with Heimbach." Which is a completely different argument.
I suppose there's no reason to think Rovics isn't being sincere in what he says, but I think he does now seem to have ended up as being a useful idiot for some quite unpleasant people.

I've always had bad vibes about the guy, especially as he has writen and performed songs about left-wing dictators such as Castro.

I'm sure there was some Hezbollah apologetics years ago aswell.

he's right you know

There’s millions of guns here. You know, it took 11 days for them to take over Afghanistan. Wonder how many days — just asking for a friend — how many days it would take the patriots to take over this country. Think about it.

"And just like the Taliban, we have pickup trucks and will be facing a force trained and funded by the US."

seriously are they still having wank dreams about a coup in america

they had the capital and went home after a few selfies

next time i'm sure they get shoot at for that short of shite

Alex Jones - like the crowd at that Alabama rally - turns on Trump after he recommends getting the vaccine.

"Shame on you, Trump. Seriously. Hey, if you don't have the good sense to save yourself and your political career, that's OK. At least you're going to get some good Republicans elected, and we like you. But, my God, maybe you're not that bright. Maybe Trump's actually a dumbass."

Could be an interesting few months of fighting between pro and anti-vaccine Trumpists, if COVID doesn't thin the ranks of the antis too quickly.

A critical reportback from Portland antifascists - sounds like the far-right rally was originally planned to be in town, so the antifascist mobilization was also planned for a central location, then the far-right ended up having to hold it in a residential area, and there were some messy arguments about whether to relocate or not:

More straightforwardly triumphalist reports are also available, see:

Also, more on Heimbach's supposed conversion:

The Portland battles have the usual suspects over here trying to turn it on its head
