The all boxing thread

I didnt realise he was actually fighting on the front line in Ukraine as recently as March. And is now going back to fight again. Like a hollywood movie this.

Apparently Joshua has said he wants to continue boxing.

he show promise in the fight against the best pound for pound boxer in the world atm

he could still try his chance against wilder , have a feeling he'd end up on his arse but

Fury and Usky fight if it happens would lead to

the winner to take the opportunity retire after a win as it would cement their legacies

still has few years left and who is the replacement Hrgovic

should not of won against zhang

shame he had to be a tit basically
Yep and the initial take that he was concussed doesn't see to have been to the fore today (though still possible). Awful moment for him, but yep, a tit.

aside from the thing he is owning

I tend to believe he need to apologise to Usky for saying "i don't care about skill, you are not strong, how did you beat me"

sour comments from Joshua

The comments were strange ...

Didn't he also say something about being 18 stone and it being tiring .. ?

And that business with the belts, also strange ..

It would be quite good if he was schooled in what a 'civil war' is too. Hint, it's not one sovereign nation illegally invading another sovereign nation. Perhaps Usyk could give him another lesson on that.

He was talking about the bit before the most recent invasion I think. I mean still an invasion but the civil war bit was about luhansk and donetsk.

And the 18 stone was just him saying he finds it difficult to fight 12 rounds cos he's a big guy. He doesn't normally go that long.

I mean it was still really cringy, self-centred and disrespectful but...

The worst bit for me was comparing almost going to prison in Reading to what's going on in Ukraine.

You're really quite kind to AJ there.

"I was studying Ukraine and all the amazing champions who have come from you're amazing country bro. I've never been there - but at the same time what's happening there is - I don't know what's happening there - but it's not nice at the end of the day."

^^ a fairly decent analysis of the situation there I guess. It's really not nice.

Unlike AJs rambling Tyson Fury was straight to the point criticising Ukrainian boxers as being 'dossers'
Fury's very good at the mind games, even with his florid inconsistent bullshit he always seems to find the weakness. Don't think it will work with Usyk though. As well as being a clever, funny guy and a bit of a spartan, he's got so much going on with the invasion, he'll ignore Fury's prattling. Having said all that, if it happens, Fury is bound to be favourite, a good big 'un etc. Usyk is so light on his feet and probably has even better twitches and feints.... he could have a chance. And the fucking engine on him.

Offhand, I can’t think of any other sport where one defeat can be career-ending, so is dealing with that mental pressure - or the failure to do so - one of the things that sets real champions / genuine contenders apart from the rest?

Yes.

Wonder how this all was in the past, say 1930s and 40s? From what I know, even the very top fighters fought several times a year and I can't imagine they had anything like the high profile training camps they have now. Plenty that was wrong with that era - fight fixing, exposing fighters to brain injuries and the rest - but I have a feeling that individual fights weren't quite as career defining. Even if you lost a major fight you knew you'd be back on the horse in 4 months.
