The all boxing thread

Really looking forward to AJ v Usyk. There's a tendency for casual fans, like me, to focus on the big headline shows when there are more interesting fights taking place at other weights, but this one looks like a really interesting clash of styles. My guess is Usyk winning the early rounds but AJ slowly breaking him down and stopping him round 7+.

The Holyfield exhibition bout the other day was a fucking disgrace. Embarrassing for the sport and tragic for one of boxing nicest blokes. The people who arranged this last need taking out back. This exhibition is different from a YouTube star getting in the ring with a ageing Pro. Holyfields opponent had a storied career in MMA ffs whereas Holyfield has never known when to quit, in spite of his money issues. The venal arseholes that took advantage aren't fit to lace his gloves. Cunts.

I've just watched that. Must have been clear when he was sparring that Holyfield wasn't in any shape to fight. He's not just the small margins around his reflexes, he was totally vulnerable there. As you say, cunts.

Channel 5

Egginton V Jkitou

and the undercard, possibly the best boxing I’ve watched this decade. Absolute warriors
I only watched the Egginton V Jkitou fight.

Loved it, an absolutely cracking fight. Head to Head (literally), nice tight crisp boxing with bursts of gunslinging from 2 very fit tough men, most excellent. I can't help but think taking that type of sustained punishment from both sides can't be good for you tho'.

There was so much action in each round at times when I looked at the time thinking the round must be nearly over only 90 seconds or so had passed.

It would be a pleasure to referee that fight, feel the intensity of the action up close.

Right result too.

It was youthful energy and aggression from start to finish. You are probably right that level of consistent punishment from both sides can’t have done their neurons much good.

So, Joshua vs Usyk tonight.

I had a dream last night that Usyk KOs AJ in round 2. The last time I had a boxing prediction dream it was Bellew KO'ing Haye in round 10, I put a tenner on it @ 100/1 - he beat him in 11 :(

Bellew's last fight was a KO loss to Usyk.

Usyk to KO AJ in round 2 is 90/1, I'm putting a score on that + a score on round 3 KO for Usyk @ 80/1.

I think AJ will win, but the tea leaves 😱

Usyk's a proper fighter, but has had to move up in weight for the division. Joshua is really light for him but still has twenty pounds on Usyk, plus of course three inches in height and four in reach. He's looked gassed quite early in fights before but being so light should stop that. The old adage holds that a good biggun bears a good littlun but if AJ gets caught we know he can be dropped.

I expect him to stick and run even if it means being boring for the fans and nothing to put on a showreel. Can't discount Usyk but he'll need a bit of luck to win.

Joshua probably shown up for what he is - big hitter, great self-promotor but a limited boxer. Shame we won't get to see Fury give him a lesson but there you go. Fury vs Joshua wouldn't be the best two fighting it out.

Plans for those Tyson Fury showdowns in tatters. A rematch will be coming.
