The all boxing thread

Just watched the fight, Fury beat Wilder convincingly, it wasn't the same Fury as I saw before, I understand he had used a new trainer for this fight, if so it seems to have made a better fighter out of him.

And Wilder looked almost ordinary, despite that he was undefeated and with an amazing KO record.

Where did you watch it?

I think Fury is just an incredibly intelligent fighter. Every fight, he has come into it having learned something else and adapting to his opposition. The trainer has defo taught him a more powerful punch but think that's it tbh. The rest is just how intelligent he his.

That was actually quite uncomfortable viewing by the end. I saw Wilder was saying he didn't want the towel thrown in but that was def the right choice I think. Fury was just unstoppable.

Disconcertingly thin legs though.

He's corner should have thrown the towel in well before. They were taking a massive risk with his health there, from about the end of the 4th he was clearly baffled, by half through the 6th he couldn't even keep his head up.. And it was clear after the 3rd that even he could get a shot in it wouldn't work, all his power had gone. He needs a new corner deontay if he's to continue fighting. Their only advice seemed to be get in there and bang him.

Yeah, really week excuse from Wilder. He certainly seemed to be carrying a bit more weight than in previous fights, would be interesting to know whether that was deliberate or something had gone a little wrong in camp.

Sounds like he's defo going to go for the rematch.

Did he actually say this? I watched the whole thing, I don't recall him or his entourage saying anything about the BHM and the costume. He is known for elaborate fight outfits.

People who willingly put themselves in a ring knowing full well they can get killed are not normal. So purely on that basis, I am willing to take his statements, incredulous as they are, at face value. Personally I think his citing the outfit being a problem is like saying I stood in the middle of a winter forest, it was -40, I did not wear my coat and somehow I ended up having a cold.

Which bit the bit about the costume being a tribute for black history month or about it affecting his legs.

The meaning behind Deontay Wilder's $40,000 black mask and cape is about the costume.

And ESPN say the Quote about it affecting his legs is real.

If anything it appears as if it's the article's author and some twitter users that had made it about the BHM. There was nothing specifically linked to the BHM in his actions, the man is simply proud of his heritage and good for him. He got beat up comprehensively, the people in his camp should have just told him to take the L and not say anything, but he clearly believes that outfit affected him. He won't be wearing 20 kg worth of clothing next time, if there is a next time.

I don’t get it. He specifically said he was paying tribute to black history month.

Deontay Wilder blames his heavy ring walk costume for his defeat saying it made his legs week. Meanwhile, Tyson Fury comes home with his shopping

Prince Naseem Hamed is probably looking at them two and thinking "fucking amateurs, I came to the ring on a flying carpet" :D

Wilders excuse is just that. He's been built up to be this invincible character who knocks everybody out. And then he's found out that he's human after all. That ain't gonna be easy for him to take so naturally he's gonna reach for excuses. It's still not as funny as David Hayes one when he lost to (I think) Bellew the first time and said it was because he'd hurt his big toe in the warm up.

Anyway, with Wilder's physique, him carrying 40 lbs into the ring would be like me carrying a bag of crisps. Perhaps to be safe, in the 3rd fight he should enter the ring on an anti-grav hoverboard.

Has anyone been watching any of the Fight Camp stuff? I've been watching some of the matches of you tube a few days after the event.

I know Eddie Hearn is not everyone's cup of tea but I reckon they've done a pretty good job of getting the event on and getting boxers back out there competing and earning money. Its a strange old thing though for someone like me who typically only tunes in for the big events. Hearing the support from the corners and the impact of the punches landing.

White v Povetkin coming up soon. A pretty decent bout given the circumstances and I think White has to be favourite by some distance, he definitely deserves a shot at a title, its not like he's ever shied away from fights. At pretty much any other time in history he would be a major British boxing star, just bad luck to be around now when British boxers dominates his division.

I would have watched the Whyte fight, but the reality is he isn't as good as he's been made out over the last few years and is fighting a 40 year old who should be long retired. Plus they're charging 20 quid for it and it's not a title fight.

I quite like Whyte, and good luck to him, but trying to fleece the fans after a shortage of sport is one of Hearn's low points, of which there are many, unfortunately.

I'll be watching the next morning on YouTube or wherever, as it'll hopefully be entertaining, at least on paper.
