Taunt the rich

Do they sweep streets at xmas or do you get a week off?

I know you think its a taunt but I'd love a street sweeper job. Out in the fresh ar every day, making the place look nice for the residents of the borough. Public sector union, half decent pension and a living wage

but on my week off I'd be smashing the granny out of your ex wife, back doors and front.

Sweeping the streets would also do far more good for humanity than gunneradt has ever done in his pointless existence, I'd be prepared to bet.

*edit* Oh, hang on, I forgot. He campaigns for UKIP. They did very well in selected areas of Southend, don't you know.

UKIP are the Lib-Dems waiting to happen. They promise X, Y, Z everywhere, anti-fees for young people, anti-immigration for certain sectors, 'work permits are OK' trying to siphon away the middle-business crowd.

Corrupt Tories - Welcome in UKIP. Picture shows Neil Hamilton at UKIP's Young Independence this year.

apologies

I honestly thought you were a road sweeper

They'll do very well in many areas in the next couple of years

Of course they will ... if you call 10% 'very well.' Oh well, it's all votes taken off the Tories.

'Selected areas of Southend' ... you fucking muppet. :D

Just think how many seats Labour will lose when devolution takes hold!!! No socialist government in England again.

It won't. And even if it did England is quite capable of returning a Labour government, selected areas of Southend or no. You'd best learn to live with it. Not that any Labour government would be anything resembling socialist, of course...

Meanwhile, I wish your silly little single-issue pressure group all the best: every vote you gain is one away from the Tories.

You reckon? The referendum will happen. If not this Parliament, then the next,

and there are far more UKIP voters than whatever an independent socialist party has

Maybe the rich pseudo socialists should have their own party too......as its a bit dishonest of the real socialists riding on the back of their (Ozwald Boateng) coat tails to power.

Most of whom - sadly - will go crying back to the Tory partly as soon as there's an election that actually matters.

Yep, that is the 'conventional psephological wisdom' based on previous examples of 'protest voting' decline between mid-term and an actual GE.
However, tucked away in (C)Ashcroft's own analysis of his private polling on UKIP, there was some evidence, (albeit) polling itself, that the attraction of UKIP is perhaps 'stickier' than supposed. Right at the end of his analysis comes this graph:-

I'm sure the numbers would change as we get nearer to the GE, but tory high command must have been concerned to see that only a minority of UKIP 'voters/considers' (44%) said they'd give up on the UKIP portest even if it made it more likely that the big party that I like least, (presumably Labour for most 'kippers), would end up in government.

I'm sure that this is rattling the tories.

I'm sure it is. That's why some senior party figures have been talking about forming an alliance with UKIP or trying to move onto their territory. It will only take a relatively small proportion of voters sticking with UKIP to put the Tories in trouble in some marginals. Nevertheless, if UKIP win so much as a single seat at the next General Election I will eat my own shoes.

Yeah, their chances of gaining any seats are pretty minimal, but the potential damage to the tories from a split right is large.
The (C)Ashcroft polling showed that the tories will struggle to move onto UKIP territory as this is more a cultural outlook than package of policies:-
"The single biggest misconception about the UKIP phenomenon is that it is all about policies: that potential UKIP voters are dissatisfied with another party’s policy in a particular area (usually Europe or immigration), prefer UKIP’s policy instead, and would return to their original party if only its original policy changed.
In fact, in the mix of things that attract voters to UKIP, policies are secondary. It is much more to do with outlook."
It is the 'centrist' social issues that Dave has driven in an attempt to detoxify the nasty party that are alienating many of what might be their 'core' demographic. I don't think they know how to react to this threat, particularly when the parliamentary party seem more interested in internecine warfare.:D

UKIP will disintegrate BNP style. They are a bunch of publicity seeking swivel eyed cranks and fruitcakes that popular with right wing nut jobs and they get a lot of media attention.

Once they gain a bit more weight they will struggle to keep the racists and the homophobes in check and they will be exposed for what they really are. A are pathetic, narrow minded with attitudes that are a couple of hundred years out of date.

Swivel-eyed cranks, fruitcakes and racists they may be, but it will be tories that are wishing for the disintegration you describe. As it stands any electoral success that they achieve will have a net benefit for (Nu?)Labour.

UKIP do not come with the BNP's historical baggage and they have already faced a decade plus of claims they are full of racists - hasn't effected their slow steady rise - even at a period when they did have to compete with a confident resurgent BNP. You don't poll around 10% so consistently without it meaning something - and that something points beyond the stereotype of them all being retired majors or loons.

Fair point. It just show how fragmented the right are though. Getting smaller and more crackpot by the hour. Just look at the right in America

A good point very well argued but I am not entirely convinced.

the american right is in ascendancy ffs

No it is not! A black man just got voted in as president during a bad economic downturn and lost to a man that had an enormousness budget for his campaign.

I would go as far as to say that is complete bollocks DC. Really, I am disappointed by this, I expected better from you!

being black means you must be left wing

The "rich pseudo-socialists" have already captured a party - Labour. Their occasional nods to socialism are about as "pseudo" as can be found.
