Mass party of the working class, branches in every working class estate/area, length and breadth of the country. A remarkably healthy internal set-up, probably the most democratic that has existed in a revolutionary party. The party has an underground and a workers/party militia trained, armed and ready. All in all with Martin, Weyman and Alex in the leadership, it is poised to see through the revolutionary transformation towards socialism.

More importantly, what is the situation with the whole left? With this resurfacing and Proper Tidy's fraternal thread it looks grim and guess whose laughing?

Hehe. Impressive.

Does anyone know if there are differences of opinion regarding TUSC initiative within the Socialist Workers Party?

Apparently some areas such as Northants, Manchester & Brom have members who are relatively enthusiastic where as the general consensus seems to be going back to 'Vote Labour Without Illussions' sort of line; probably coming to do with working in 'united fronts' which involve Labour, Lib Dems and to a lesser degree Greens.
Or is this sectarian hearsay.
Would be interesting to hear from SWP member or supporter.

Was wondering if this line still covers there present position(I know it is a couple of years old)

Was interested in this part & how they see united front tactics.
By appeasing predominately labour representatives & other mainstream parties in anti cuts movement and other areas of struggle such as UAF, where these people are putting through austerity measure and cuts to jobs and services are you letting them off the hook or putting pressure on them to take a stand against attacks on the poor.
"We want Labour MPs to work with us and speak on platforms, whether in Unite Against Fascism or defending a local hospital. We should take every opportunity to unite with the widest possible layer of activists to resist the onslaught of attacks which are certain to intensify, whichever government is in power. The only debate between the Tories and Labour at the moment is whether there will be cuts now or cuts later."

I've heard roumours about the SWP cosying up to Respect again in some areas. I hope that's not true though, bad as they are I'd have thought Galloway was too toxic for them with the bollocks he's been coming out with recently.

I think what Nigel says about UAF might have something to it too though. I know of at least one SWP controlled UAF demo where a TUSC speaker was refused a platform because he intended to use it to criticize a Labour councilor who was speaking for making cuts.

Wow!

Many seem to be fanatically, if not hysterically loyal t Gorgeous George.
The Labour thing seems from what I can make out(and I hope that I am wrong) to cut a lot deeper than this; for instance in the anti cuts/austerity campaigns such as Anti Cuts Alliance they seem to be snuggling up to Labour, which in my opinion is making things worse; we should be putting pressure on all politicians, Councillors, political activists etc. especially in the Labour Party to oppose all cuts not pandering to the idea of those who just want to make a few reforms to this agenda.

Chris Harman in Socialist Review as far as I remember didn't think there was much change with the Blairite agenda in the mid nineties. With Ed saying that New Labour is in the past I would expect the SWP to go back to this Centrist Line: Radical Rhetoric & Ultra Leftist Sloganeering With Reformist Policies. Although I think that RESPECT victory is a foot forward it is not based on a Socialist Programme so supporting Labour and RESPECT fall into this agenda.

Cosying up to Labour councillors who are implementing cuts isn't a new development though mate, they've been doing that through RTW ever since the Tories got in.

Could you elaborate?

Nothing much more to say to be honest, but from the Tories being elected in May 2010 they've been offering a platform for Labour councilors who are implementing cuts. This was one the main justification given for the setting up of the NSSN anti-cuts group (not wanting to get into a debate over the rights and wrongs of that decision on the part of the NSSN though as I wasn't around at the time so don't know enough about the debate that was had back then).
