Six Nations - 2024

First hattrick scored against England in the 5/6 nations since 1985.

Can anyone tell me what was unusual about that one 39 years ago?

It was scored by a player who had been taken off but then was subbed back on due to something

50-0 at half time, turns out this is very much a mismatch with none of Portugal’s World Cup players. This is because Portugal are currently playing in the European rugby championship (the one with Georgia in) so this is basically Portugal A

I am enjoying seeing how the Exeter players are doing - quite well

Is there nothing in the conversion clock rule for acts of god like the ball spotaneously falling off the tee of its own accord?

I didn't know Parisse spoke such good English, given he never played here.

No as far as I know. However as Servat was on the pitch and as France charged the clock should have been reset.

I watched the game last night can I just reiterate that Mellencello is a superstar.

I’m at England v Ireland Saturday. Feel it will be a war and very close. I think a big England back to basics type performance is coming and can’t shake the feeling England will win.

I think the way England win is by trying to take Ireland on by playing. Don’t see England winning an arm wrestle. They might lose that 20-14 which is by less than a score but never look like winning.

Go out to score 4 tries, 30+ points and even if they go down 41-32 or something to Ireland they’ve given it a go. England can dominate the Irish scrum, with knock on territory gains, but to break down a superbly organised Irish defensive and offensive structure you’ve got to have more ambition than hoping for kickable goals.

Of course this is not a prediction, more how I see a path for an England win, and the form certainly favours Ireland.

The last two times Ireland have been beaten was against New Zealand, before then France beat them in Paris in the 2022 6N. Pretty sure all these teams did so by playing a game designed to get around Ireland not go through them

I am off to Wales v France on Sunday, I can see this going either way, suspect the way the French campaign is going an early card or conceding a try could mean they give up.

Scotland should get a bonus point win against Italy, but whenever they’re talked up it usually means they’re about to choke. They are still on for a triple crown (less meaningful now there’s a 6 team champions) but not sure anyone sees them beating Ireland

Will be interested to see how Smith plays I think he's fit again. Shame Field and French aren't available :(

quite happy for england to go into the match as the favorites

but anyone going to twickers can you bring an extra wheel for the chariot

just incase like

Nobody thinks England are favourites.

But there is a way they can win which basically means playing out of their skin. There is also the fact Ireland have won a lot of 6N games in a row, and the record has to go at some point.

Theoretically England have a ceiling performance which means they can beat Ireland. Certainly this hasn’t been seen so far. Ireland don’t seem to have put in a shit performance for ages either.

There could also be an early red card for Ireland as well, something like that.
