I Love a sandwich, I had a chicken, avacadoe and basil one from Pret today and it was lovely.

I'll start you with this personal beauty. Soda bread, red leicester, cod portion, mushy peas.

Cheese then peas? You're gonna get complaints

I like the classics, and then build outwards

e.g cheese & pickle, but with a mix of crunchy peanut butter and sweet pickle

Cheese, tomato and mayo is a classic.

We had afternoon tea at Fortnum's the other day, cucumber sandwiches with the crust cut off, all that. They were OK. The cakes were better.

I do love a sarnie but my tastes are quite traditional really.

My favourites:
Egg mayonnaise (I make a cracking egg mayo with loads of mustard and some white pepper) with cress and/or sprouted mustard
Cheese, pickle, cucumber and lettuce
Fish fingers
Corned beef, cucumber and pickled beetroot slices
Hot sausages with ketchup or brown sauce, fried onions too sometimes
Cold sausages with coleslaw
Roast beef and mustard

All the above on white bread with butter, except the sausage ones which work best in a bit of fresh baguette.
I am sure more will occur to me later

Sometimes all I want is a Shippam's paste sandwich - sardine & tomato (with the addition of slices of tomato) or beef as a preference.

Growing up we were a Marmite household, but know I'm a grown-up and can do what I like, I often opt for a Bovril sarnie by way of a change.

I really fancy a lemon curd sandwich now.

Ooh yeah sardine & tomato paste is lovely. I usually go with slices of cucumber with it.

My rule of thumb for seasoning vegetable additions is:

Pepper for tomato, salt for cucumber

The M&S BLT, spiced up a bit with Tabasco.

One of the few reasons for actually going into the office these days..

There is nothing you can put on a cucumber that will make much of a difference, really. If you like crunchy water, fine; it has its place in the great scheme of things. But stop pretending it has any flavour, however seasoned.

There is a restorative power to a Greggs bacon (with or without omelette) roll that can only be experienced if you're eating it at some ungodly hour in the morning on an early shift, possibly after unwise indulgence the night before.

Their breakfast deal of a bacon or sausage sarnie and a hot drink is great value, cheaper than a coffee alone from most places - if I find myself waiting around somewhere around that time of day I'll make an effort to find the nearest Greggs for a refuel.
