rrrrrrrrrRight... so we know where we're staying and we know we're going to Colinette on the Saturday (morning?). As for the rest of the weekend, I was hoping for a bit of input...
Do we
A) make it up as we go along
or
B) come up with some kind of schedule....
Things to do include:
Powis castle is nearby:
And there is a lovely looking
steam train too:
Apparently.. "you may even get the chance to ride on Thomas the Tank Engine or one of his friends"...
Obviously there are walks we could do. Apparently (according to
this website, the following national walking trails run through Welshpool.
"Welshpool is fortunate in having two National Trails within close proximity of the Town; Offa's Dyke path runs to the East and the historically significant Glyndwr's Way completes its 132 mile trek in Welshpool. The Ann Griffiths Walk, used together with Glyndwr's Way, makes for an excellent looped walk weaving though the stunning Vyrnwy Valley. "
In fact this seems to be a good place to start for activities:

I guess it depends how much walking etc we want to do...
We
could do:
Saturday
Colinette in the morning
Back to bunkhouse for lunch/bring packed lunch with us if time is tight.
Then either:
1. Have a look round the town's "heritage trail" (cheap option)
2. Do some stitching and bitching on the 14:15 steam train from Welshpool- Llanfair returning to Welshpool at 16:35 (£9 return)
3. Go to
Powis Castle (£8.80)
And end up in a pub for dinner and the duration...
Sunday
Do a long walk with a packed lunch in the middle before a last pub stop before getting the train/in the car home in the evening.
The bunkhouse is in Welshpool about 1 mile from the train station
here. Colinette is about 11 miles from the bunkhouse.
The packed lunch thing would mean that we'd have to come up with a kitty and prevail upon the car drivers to pick up food for sangers etc en route. There's a kitchen in the bunkhouse so we can easily put some sandwiches together and maybe do brekkie too - in that way saving money for a good dinner and drinks on the Saturday night.
Anyway, these are really
just suggestions and it'd be great if you guys had some ideas to throw into the pot!
